Disappointing Season?

All of the KXNO radio shows spoke about it, taking phone calls and giving their insight as to whether or not the line of demarcation would be 8 wins and 4 loses, 9 and 3, 10 and 2 or 11 and 1. The predominant answer was that if we were to get a 10 win and 2 lose season, it would be a disappointing season. Well this is where we are at right now with enough football to go thru yet that we very well could end up losing another one yet. So IMHO, I believe we are at that point where this is a disappointing season. Don’t get me wrong, I will continue to use my season tickets and cheer on the Hawks but without a doubt, this season to me is already disappointing especially with all the praise and predictions that had us challenging for the National Title game. I truly believed the talk and I actually believed that we should, not could, get to the NC.

This question all depends on if your preseason expectations were realistic or not. If you look through the preseason prediction thread there are a lot of disappointed people

It's only disappointing because at this point last year we were 7-0. If we win out and get back to 10-2 this whole thing will be forgotten, especially with wins over highly ranked MSU and tOSU. This has to be the line in the sand however. With the experience we brought back from last year and the seniors if we end up with anything less than the results from last year it will be a disappointment.

last year we barely beat UNI, didn't dominate Arkansas St, scraped by UM, beat MSU on the last play, got scared by Indiana, and lost to Northwestern. From that team we lost an NFL starting quality tight end, 3 starting offensive lineman, and 2 NFL quality starting linebackers, yet we were supposed to make a big leap and contend for the Title? REALLY?
The manner in which we lost the 2 games has been very disappointing. However, the fact that we would lose gameS this year should have been easy to see coming. Given last year's results and the losses, losing 3 games and winning the Outback Bowl should not be viewed as a huge letdown except by those who were guzzling the Kool-Aid.

As far as the loses of personnel, I was believing that we were starting to reload because of all the guys that had playing experience. Now it is easy to see that we were starting from scratch or close to it in a few places with a couple others that turned out pretty good but not as good so the let down in experience or talent is showing.

As far as drinking the coolaid, I already mentioned that I could be viewed as drinking it but I also was not the only one including some National media members and some very close to the team analysts were also of the notion that we had a chance for the NC game. With that said I dont think that I was drunk on the coolaid, maybe just a weak buzz.

Yes we should have been better. A couple reasons why - 1. The Schedule. 2. Our weakness - the oline is not a weakness. 3. More experience across the board.
Having Spievey may be the only position that I could see helping. But our defense is good to great. Same as last season. Heck our rankings thus far are higher than last year.
Considering that we shouldn't have lost the two games we have lost makes it all the more difficult to swallow.

I tried real hard not to get caught up in the nc hype, but it is real easy to do with the talent we did have returning.( Clayborn, D-Line etc) I felt with the whole weigher situation and it almost looked like prater was gonna be out for more then it seemed, I just didn't feel we were a top 5 team. After Jewel went down I really wondered about a bsc bowl game. I hope a rob can keep it up. He is a tough sob

It's not my intent to rip on people for buying into the hype. I'm really trying to encourage people who are seeing this as some sort of missed-once-in-a-lifetime-opportunity. It's not. It's a very good but not great team that plays very hard and ought to be in a bowl game in January and contend for the win. We've had several years like that and they were very enjoyable. This year should still be fun as well.

I agree, I believe we will win four of our last five and finish somewhere inside the top fifteen!

Definitely disappointing in the sense of how the schedule was pretty set up for us and we have enough talent returning to have a chance at things. The losses at linebacker and the secondary in hindsight is proving that NT expectations were not realistic. I think it would also would be highly disappointing to not see Iowa representing the Big Ten in the Rose if they won out and Wisco gets the nod (if they win out). But, that is what you get for not taking care of business.

The only thing now I can say is you look to win out and let the chips fall. However, maybe now in a sense we can start looking forward to watching Iowa still play in some big games and the chance to say we still knocked off some very highly ranked teams. Maybe we will get lucky and still find away to the Roses. Stranger things have happened.

I am disappointed in how we lost
and, I don't think either of the teams we lost to is great ... good but not great
which also describes the 2010 Hawkeyes ... which is also disappointing :(

We lost 2 conference games last year, including to Northwestern and we made a BCS Bowl.

If the Hawks win out, we won't have a bad loss on our resume. Arizona and Wisconsin are 2 solid(Wisconsin is great) teams.

If we don't make a BCS Bowl, then we're headed to Florida.

(with the exception of last year....)Florida January weather sure beats Iowa January weather.
Life could be worse.

I thought we would lose 2 games this year, but honestly I didn't think it would of been against Arizona or Wisky. I thought we would lose to OSU and NW.

I am personally not too disappointed yet, we still have 5 games left and I know KF is gonna challenge these guys to come out and continue to play hard. They will prob not make a BCS game, but a New Years day bowl is not a bad thing. I think you will see a different team next saturday in Kinnick. I think if we get kinnick rocking again, the players will feed off the energy and kick sparty's @ss.

A question for everyone, if we beat MSU by lets say 20 some points, do we jump up in the BCS? Do we jump MSU if we blow them out?

This season did not live up to my highest hopes, so I guess you could call it a disappointing season for me, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to the rest of the games (except for at Indiana). If we don't get a BCS bowl game, I won't be going to that either.

Go Hawks!

I don't think it's a disappointment yet. I really just feel bad for Stanzi and DJK. Stanzi needed to improve his game for us to have a chance at the NC, and he's done that. I think he's something like 12 TD's 2 INT's and 1700 yds. DJK is vaulting up the record books. Our offense is surprisingly potent, however special teams have lost two games.

People always focus on the negatives. Let's not forget, we lost to a GOOD Wisconsin team that had just beat OSU. Our linebackers and corners are young/inexperienced. For our defense to be effective, we need pressure with the line. They were playing against one of the biggest and best OLine's in the country.

Despite all the mistakes we had, we only lost by one. People focus too much on the last minute. How often do teams come back and win in those situations? We would've had to make it to the 30 to even have a chance. Had we missed a field goal, there would be more focus on the special teams, which was the real culprit in this game.

Defense has lived up to expectations, Offense has exceeded.... I never thought our SPecial Teams would be so disorganized and awful. Our 2 losses are soley on that. Nothing more, Nothing less.
