Disappointed, but not discouraged...

Tonight definitely was disappointing. Nebraska isn't very good, and this is a game that we should win when we're at home. But I'm not the least bit discouraged in what Fran has going on right now.

There were plenty of positives to take from tonight's game. There were several clutch shots down the stretch that were hit, from an array of players. Gatens hit one with about 5 minutes left just when Nebraska was looking to grab momentum and maybe pull away. May hit one late in the same situation to bring it back within two points. Hell, Oglesby's shot was halfway down before it rattled out. If that shot falls, it may have been a totally different game (would have cut the lead to 1 with around 15 seconds left). Hell, Archie even made a "triple-awesome" (great move, great finish, got rim on the FT), instead of his usual "awesome-sh*tty" play (great move, clank the shot). He also had a hellacious swat.

McCabe played very well tonight outside of a couple fouls. He continues to impress me. Definitely thought he got hosed on the blocking call for his 5th, but if someone who saw a replay can say it was the right call, I'd buy it (Definitely looked like a charge live, though).

I held out a little hope for an 11-7 finish in the Big Ten, but I knew that was highly unlikely. We all knew there was likely to be a game or two where we stumbled. I don't get why people are on the ledge over one of the inevitable bumps in the road.

It sucks that we lost. I'm not happy about it myself but for whatever reason people seem to think that it's 15-20 years ago and that we are entitled and obligated to beat Nebraska. Fact is, that's not where we are as a program right now and guaranteed wins shouldn't be expected right now (except, maybe against Chicago State.)

The psycho posts by some people are not useful or necessary.

Tork, wtf are u doing? Its Troll Thursday. Being positive and grounded is not allowed tonight.

Great post, sir

I think the McCabe fifth foul was a good call. He wasn't really set and he slid in to it.

I really hope the Hawks learn from this game because there are no easy games in this league. I wouldn't say they overlooked them but they just didn't look quick or prepared on defense and just weren't ready to lock them down at the end of the game. Seemed eerily similar to the end of the Purdue game at home.

This game really doesn't change my opinion of this team at all. We are going to go out and win some games we shouldn't and drop some games like tonight.

It's going to be a roller coaster ride all season and the positives will outweigh the negatives in the end I believe.

I agree, no need to panic.

The McCabe foul was legit. He was sliding still and leaned into the defender. Easy call.

McCabe's 5th was the right call, he slid as the shooter was in the air. Can't be leaning on that one. Better off to just try to fake the block and hope they miss. It was a disappointing game, but Gatens couldn't hit crap tonight from outside and Richardson couldn't miss. Other way around and Hawks win by 15.

You nailed it! At least for me. A game we should have won, but we didn't. Happens daily in sports. Hope the guys keep their heads up and keep improving. Was an enjoyable game to watch despite the outcome.

This nails it. I said elsewhere that this loss doesn't end the season. [It might end it for those who were hinging their continuing fandom on making the NCAA tourney, but oh well.]

This team has improved A TON since the beginning of the year. The next big jump is to maintaining the improvement and showing it consistently, night in and night out.

I think next year, that will start to show up a little. Just like the loss of Cole was underestimated by some this year, I think we'll struggle early next year with youth, namely in trying to replace Gatens. That said though, you will have Marble, McCabe, and Basabe (yes, he's still on the team and can be a good player) as juniors, and White and Oglesby as fairly experienced sophomores. Once the youngbloods get their feet under them and find their roles (might not even be until fall of 2013), this team will be SOLID.

Just believe it. Anybody who thinks Fran isn't developing this thing needs to go back and watch the last few games of the 2009-10 season. Tonight was sloppy, but we've come a long way, baby.

I also expect nights like this, I am just so frustrated that it happened against Nebraska, God, I do not like Nebraska!

Time to bounce back, guys!

Ah, got ya. I was sitting maybe 25 rows up, right behind the basket, so he was basically sliding right toward me. From my angle, he definitely looked set, but if his shoulders hadn't been lined up right in the center of my line of sight, I'd probably have seen it.
