DiNardo says "You can lose to Arizona and still win the Nat. Championship"

It almost makes me feel a little jealous toward ISU fans. They don't have any expectations for their own team, so there isn't any stress involved. They know they're going to suck, so why worry about i?. Just crack some brews and chill with your friends, and if ISU happens to win that day, great. If not, oh well.

But that feeling only lasts for .1 of a second.

The fact that you even said something like that makes me question your fandom. I'm putting you on double secret probation!

Even if it's almost, that's not cool.

-1 cool pt.

Whole lot of season left to be played; lets just forget the national championship talk and enjoy the ride. That's one thing I've noticed about this season, up to this point I don't seem to be enjoying it as much as I did last year or 2008. I'm a lot more tense and nervous going into games, and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Anyone else feel that way?

Anyhow, as far as what Dinardo said - he's right. While the road to any potential NC is certainly looks a lot tougher than it did one week ago, there are still a lot of games left, and a lot can happen.

PLEASE! Yes, lets just play the games. I have completely put the NC out of my mind and I don't understand why others can't or won't. If it happens great, but like I said before the AZ game I won't be thinking about it until we have won all our games and are up by 3 td's late in the game against Minny.

I think that he's just trying to shut up Hawkeye fans so that we quit distracting our team. Given his background, he probably is cheering for us to knock off tOSU.

That comment by DiNardo gave me a little more hope. I was so down after our loss (today was basically the first day that the loss on Saturday didn't dominate my thoughts) and I just breathed a sigh of relief when I heard him say that. I would love to win the Rose Bowl, but that NC game is the ultimate victory and I want our Hawkeyes to get it! I'm still hoping this is the year, even though it's a long shot. GO HAWKS!!!!

And you would have to be extra hopeful that your game would even be televised!

I guess I can see it happening but who do some of these tames lose to?

1. Alabama -They have plenty of tough games ahead @Ark, vs. Fla, and @SC in the next three weeks.

2. Ohio State - We have to win in Kinnick to keep any small hope alive for a NC

3. Boise St. -One game season for them now if Oregon St. can't do it very few left on their schedule have a chance. Maybe Nevada could do it.

4. Texas - Oklahoma in Dallas, then Nebby in Lincoln, and possibly the Big 12 title game.

5. TCU - They have to go to Utah in Nov.

6. Oregon - They have quite a few tests left, Stanford, @USC, AZ in Autzen and Oregon St. in Corvallis to end the season.

7. Nebraska - Texas seems to be the only major challenge left, but maybe our Cyclone friends can help... haha.

8. Florida - Quite few tough ones here especially the way they have been playing easily could lose one in there.

9. Oklahoma - Texas and a possible Big 12 title game are the major hurdles.

10. Wisconsin - Still have to play Mich St. in East Lansing, OSU and they have to visit Kinnick.

11. Arkansas - Lots of tough ones for the Razorbacks Alabama this week and Auburn, SC, and LSU on the schedule.

12. LSU - WVU this week then Fla, Auburn, Alabama, and Arkansas still on the schedule.

13. Utah- TCU seems to be the only tough one left.

14. Auburn - SC this week then the usual pretty tough SEC schedule.

15. South Carolina - Alabama comes to them and @Florida

16. Arizona - Oregon St., @ Stanford and @Oregon

17. Stanford - @Oregon in a couple weeks and AZ comes to town.

Some of the teams here don't have very much left. We'll need a couple upsets to get the outcome we need even then chances are slim. It is possible though we need AZ to win as many as possible, Utah or TCU need to be upset at some point, same with Boise otherwise if everyone has a loss but them there might be a nonAQ NC game.

Here's my take on the Arizona loss: Three plays that hurt us tremendously, but only two that allowed us to lose. Obviously those three are the blocked punt, the INT returned for TD and the KO TD.

The punt block is negated by the muffed punt by AZ. The AZ INT negated by Binns' INT. That puts it at a tie game. If AZ hadn't intercepted, which I think was a fluke play, since McNutt NEVER drops passes, we probably get at least 3. That puts us ahead.

However, I think the biggest thing that hurt us, was playing with a 20 pt deficit. Our offense doesn't work that way. Had it been a lot closer at halftime, the running game would've improved in the second half, and the Oline would've played better. Subtract two big plays by AZ and we win by 17+.

There seems to be a lot of people out there that think Iowa played terribly, but I didn't see it that way. I think we're still a dangerous team, we just need to keep an eye on special teams.

I sort of agree with some of what you're saying, but I don't think just because we got the fumble recovery on the punt that their punt block is negated, same with the interception.

Their big plays happened early on in the game, giving them a huge boost in momentum and kept their crowd in the game throughout.
Had those plays not happened when they did... I feel as though Iowa could have taken the crowd out of the game and slowly drained their players of their momentum buzz... Which I then believe Iowa could have played THEIR game and taken the game under control.

Also, I think the blocked/missed extra point made all of the difference in the world. We had them beating themselves up. We had them silent after we tied it up. That extra point gave them a spark and lit a fire up under their arses. I strongly believe it would have been a different outcome had we made that extra point.

However, all of those things did happen and happened at the perfect time (for AZ) and we can't change that. Iowa is still great and I love when we get to go into games with people underestimating us... and then showing them how to play football.

In my opinion we were the better team and still are and I feel as though we will only get better as the season goes on and I don't see any reason for us to not be playing in January.

Looking forward to Ball State and the rest of the season!
GO HAWKS!

I guess I can see it happening but who do some of these tames lose to?

1. Alabama -They have plenty of tough games ahead @Ark, vs. Fla, and @SC in the next three weeks.

Tide has a tough schedule ... hard to remain perfect (11-1 pre SEC title game)

2. Ohio State - We have to win in Kinnick to keep any small hope alive for a NC

go to Madison and Iowa City, I think they could lose both (10-2)

3. Boise St. -One game season for them now if Oregon St. can't do it very few left on their schedule have a chance. Maybe Nevada could do it.

who cares if they go 12-0? if Iowa is 11-1, they will pass Boise in the polls. for that matter, TCU or Utah or any BCS school that goes 12-0 would pass Boise

4. Texas - Oklahoma in Dallas, then Nebby in Lincoln, and possibly the Big 12 title game.

Texas will be lucky to win 10 games (9-3)

5. TCU - They have to go to Utah in Nov.

they would pass Boise should they win-out because of the Utah game ... I don't know if we can pass a 12-0 TCU, so I am hoping the lose one, but not to Utah (more on that later)

6. Oregon - They have quite a few tests left, Stanford, @USC, AZ in Autzen and Oregon St. in Corvallis to end the season.

I get the feeling that we'll be playing Oregon in January for some reason ... I hope it is in the NC game, but more likely the Rose Bowl (11-1)

7. Nebraska - Texas seems to be the only major challenge left, but maybe our Cyclone friends can help... haha.

I agree, they beat Texas and are 12-0 pre Big XII title game

8. Florida - Quite few tough ones here especially the way they have been playing easily could lose one in there.

way overrated, but who are they going to lose to besides Alabama? LSU is overrated, S Carolina is overrated, FSU sucks (11-1)

9. Oklahoma - Texas and a possible Big 12 title game are the major hurdles.

up and down team ... weak schedule other than Texas, I think they beat Longhorns bit lose an odd one (11-1)

10. Wisconsin - Still have to play Mich St. in East Lansing, OSU and they have to visit Kinnick.

lose @ EL and @ IC, beat OSU (10-2)

11. Arkansas - Lots of tough ones for the Razorbacks Alabama this week and Auburn, SC, and LSU on the schedule.

good team, but not good enough to run the SEC (10-2)

12. LSU - WVU this week then Fla, Auburn, Alabama, and Arkansas still on the schedule.

WAY, WAY overrated ... (8-4)

13. Utah- TCU seems to be the only tough one left.

This is what scares me ... if the Utah/TCU winner is 12-0 they will pass Boise and be near impossible for Iowa to pass ... I'm left to hoping Utah beats TCU but loses at South Bend (eew, I feel dirty even thinking about rooting for ND)

14. Auburn - SC this week then the usual pretty tough SEC schedule.

(8-4)

15. South Carolina - Alabama comes to them and @Florida

(9-3)

16. Arizona - Oregon St., @ Stanford and @Oregon

get to 8-0 before finishing 10-2

17. Stanford - @Oregon in a couple weeks and AZ comes to town.

(10-2)

I bet Arizona contents for the Pac 10 crown if their defense played the way they did vs the Hawks. I bet the roll Cal.

I hate to jump down the schedule, I'm a firm beliver in just taking one game at atime, but the OSU is the game is one that could get interesting if we've both gone unbeaten in conference play to that game. With the exception of 2004, OSU has had our number in Kinnick and with a Big Ten title/NC on the line they will be ready for this game as well!

I think they've done more than have our number. They've pretty much dominated us for the better part of the last 60 years.

Northwestern has had our number recently...OSU not so much.

I am not going to lie I would take a NC game any day.

I would also like to see a Rose Bowl rematch with Arizona though. Especially after seeing all the crapy things the fans did. The old guy flipping off that kid, and the kids face after. #fail

I would like to see the hawks play them again. No way they make it past us twice!

I agree with DiNardo.

IF Iowa manages to get to the OSU game without another loss, all the media will be talking about will be how Iowa stumbled in the 100 degree desert in an early season matchup due to special teams mishaps. They'll show a couple clips of it and then talk about how much those problems have been cleaned up.

That's how they do their thing of creating a buzz around a game to jack up the advertising rates.

But let's not get too far ahead of ourselves here. We need to take care of Ball State and get Coker into the mix as much as possible before the real season is upon us.

According to too many around here, you shouldn't dare to have dreams at all.

It's just smarter to not think big enough and often enough that those dreams become expectations, which is what a lot of people have done. Then, when you get let down (which is next to inevitable), that's when you see people start calling for the coaches' heads. Granted, most of those people are just nuts, but principle stands. You can dream for a NC or Rose Bowl. But don't let something like the NC become your expectation, where you are ticked that we might not get there. Only two teams get to play for it. Boom or bust is not a good attitude to have with those kinds of odds.
