DiNardo says "You can lose to Arizona and still win the Nat. Championship"

Gerry DiNardo thinks we're still in the chase for the national championship. I just saw this on Big Ten Football and Beyond. He also says that "there will not be two undefeated teams in the national championship game." Also said the early loss is better than a late loss (duh).

DiNardio is a big fan of the Hawkeyes.I really thinks they are a good team Chris Martin on the other hand doesn't think that Arizona is that good of a team. It will be interesting if the Cats do well all season what he has to say then. Chris Martin just likes to get a reaction out of DiNardio.
I really hope the Hawks run the table and I really hope Arizona runs the table in the Pac 10 and then see what people think then.

Hypothetical BCS controvery: Iowa runs the table, Arizona loses one in the Pac Ten and they end up with identical records.
Iowa makes the BCS title game, Arizona doesn't, screaming "We beat Iowa".

In regards to Iowa, I really do think that Iowa is a very, very good football team.

They stumbled in the desert. We all know why. No need to re-hash it. What impressed me is that they FOUGHT BACK. They made a game out of it late in the 4th quarter after being down 3 scores. In 2004 it didn't happen that way.

IMO, a lot of things have to happen for Iowa just to win the Big Ten, but I feel that they will get better as the year goes along....and they are already pretty darn good. There is lots of veteran leadership, talent at the skill positions, all-Americans on defense and it's headed up by the best coaching staff in the nation.

Mark my words....the Michigan game has just gotten a lot more interesting. Iowa should win all of its games leading up to the trip to Ann Arbor. I think Michigan will as well. Iowa and Michigan will more than likely both be ranked in the top 10...or close to it by that game. If Iowa comes out of the Big House with a win, this season gets a whole lot more interesting for all of us.

There will not be two undefeated teams playing for the National Title this year.

Whole lot of season left to be played; lets just forget the national championship talk and enjoy the ride. That's one thing I've noticed about this season, up to this point I don't seem to be enjoying it as much as I did last year or 2008. I'm a lot more tense and nervous going into games, and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Anyone else feel that way?

Anyhow, as far as what Dinardo said - he's right. While the road to any potential NC is certainly looks a lot tougher than it did one week ago, there are still a lot of games left, and a lot can happen.

Somewhat. Seems like I haven't derived as much satisfaction after a win this year and hit bottom harder than normal after the loss. Even our stompass over ISU didn't get my juices flowing as much.

It would probably depend on whom that loss came against. If Zona loses to somone like Washington or UCLA, they wouldn't have an argument as those two teams - along with a couple of other teams - are the bottom dwellers in the PAC10. If they lose a close game against Oregon in Autzen Stadium, then yeah, I would hear that argument.

If we want to get to a NC game, we're going to have to put major points on the board to crack the top 5

It has to start this week with Ball State. Kirk needs to put his normal nice guy demeanor away for a while. Ball State needs to be a sacrificial lamb. We need to hang 60 on these guys. Up by 40 and still chucking the ball all over kind of stuff.

Kinda. I think it's just because I didn't want to get let down. Since that happened last week, I think I'll start to enjoy it more.

I was nervous as hell about the ISU game. Arizona, not so much. Yes, I wanted Iowa to win, but I knew that a loss to Arizona wouldn't hurt the Hawks nearly as much as a loss to ISU.

That's what I mean. Kirk isn't that kind of guy, that's why I'm afraid our hunt for a NC is ovah. I'd be surprised if he puts any more than 40 up on the board. He'll shut everything down by the 3rd.

Excellent point.

At least Arizona has a chance (and is being mentioned by the national talking heads) to win their conference.

ISU, not so much.

Iowa cannot afford any "close wins" this year against lower competition. HawkfromNorwalk is right....Iowa needs to blow David Letterman University out of the water.

Yes. I'm not sure any season will ever be more fun than 2009, even if we do win the NC some year. Unforgettable.

It has nothing to do with the nervousness towards the ISU, it has to do with the satisfaction of the win. Normally after Iowa beats ISU I love the following Monday at work and watching all the clowns try to avoid talking about the game. This year was different. I didn't care. I was already thinking ahead to next week instead of taking a day or two to enjoy the domination put forth. Maybe it is true in some regards. Maybe as fans it's better if we start off the radar because winning gives us more satisfaction. Starting so high increases the anxiety for each subsequent week.

Iowa does not need to blow Ball State out of the water or lay 60 points on them. Iowa needs to get up by 28 as soon as possible and then substitute freely to get the 2nd and 3rd team players a lot of reps. We may be needing some of them by mid November.

What is with the people that come in here and tell everyone to stop the talk about NC? If you dont want to talk about it go to another thread. We dont play the game we only support the Hawks so we have no cart to get in front of the horse. If we were players it would be different. Also players like DJK that put themselves out there are true athletes. People who try to act like a NC is not what your going for is just so you dont hear people say Told you So. Kinda like the guy who does not wear his team colors into the stadium because that way if they lose they wont hear anything on their way out.

So Dont come into a thread and tell people what to talk about.
Sorry thats my rant its been from multiple threads Ive read.

It almost makes me feel a little jealous toward ISU fans. They don't have any expectations for their own team, so there isn't any stress involved. They know they're going to suck, so why worry about i?. Just crack some brews and chill with your friends, and if ISU happens to win that day, great. If not, oh well.

But that feeling only lasts for .1 of a second.
