Diesel suggests 3/10 for Hoosier makeup. Reax?

If the league is going to absolutely mandate that we play the game at Indiana....even though they caused this issue by not agreeing to every option for Wednesday night presented to them....then March 10th would be the best option. By making it the last game, we keep the rest of our schedule intact and we'll know by 3/10 what our chances are of winning the regular season title and/or getting a first round bye as a Top 4 team.

So would then Iowa go from Bloomington straight to Indy for the B1G tourney? Either that or fly back to Iowa City on Monday night after the game and back to Bloomington on Wednesday or Thursday for the B1G tourney.

I would rather just get it over with and play the 27th. An extra day of rest is a lot more important on March 10th then it is on February 27th, IMO.

3/10 still gives Tuesday and Wednesday to shake out seeds for BTT and teams to prepare for their first-game opponent. I'd be fine with it. Plus, if we have a 1 1/2 game lead or better in the standings, we might not even have to play it at all :)

Iowa is playing for their first NCAA birth in 9 years and their first B10 championship in over 30. I don't want something that puts Iowa at a disadvantage down the stretch to be the cause of them falling short. I think 4 games in one week is a lot to ask of them. It makes the most sense for the game to be played on the 10th since Iowa has a good shot at a first round bye and Indiana doesn't have to travel for the make up game or the tourney.

Has there been any consideration of refusing to play in their crumbling arena? I mean if safety is the big concern, we might as well say we're not going back there until the renovation is done, and Ohio State and Nebraska should do the same. Besides, if the game is on Feb 27 it should be in Chicago, which is much closer to each team's previous game than B town is.

The only thing that sucks about this is losing the chance to clince the conference at home. The Illinois game would be extra fun knowing if we win we win the conference.

I think that date makes the most sense for everyone involved. It would be unfair to put Iowa in that situation of having to play 4 games in a week.

The NCAA tourney is the much bigger prize for this team. That is why I said a day of rest would be better in mid March than in late February.

And what happens if drops 3 games to end the regular season (Wisky, at Minny and at MSU) and then would lose the makeup game? There is a chance then that Iowa would play on Thursday of the B1G tourney.

Just get the game over with.

Like I said in my other post, what if Iowa goes on a skid and has to play Thursday of the B1G tourney? That could possibly be 5 games in a week right before the NCAA tourney.

While it is not likely to happen that way I would not give it any chance of happening.

I agree with the thought to just play it ASAP. I don't want to pile even more games into mid-March. If Iowa has to play 3 games in 5 days, with back to back road games, so be it.

I'd like to challenge them in late February, and then have a mental break to gear up for BTT and NCAA tourney.

That could very well happen but the people who put the B10 schedules together put a lot of thought into it to not make it overly taxing on the teams. Again, playing 4 games in a week would do just that, even for a deep team like Iowa. As you said, there is a possibility that Iowa could drop the games against Wisky, Minny and MSU but at least we would know it wouldn't be because they are exhausted from hopping all over the midwest during that span.

At least if they play on the 10th, they'll still likely get 3 days off before they play again. Besides, prolonged breaks can make a team lethargic when they get back onto the court.

I've thought about that. Sure the AD says that the panel fell because of the weather but he also does have a lot to gain by shoving people in the arena ASAP. I mean, he'd have a lot to lose if something fell during the game but I can see some concern on playing in the building without some unbiased observer saying it's okay.

Half our team is going to be playing back to backs all the time in the NBA. May as well get ready now.

why didn't they bump the women's game and maybe do a doubleheader like 5:00 women's and 8:00 mens or something. Not like anyone is going to watch IU women so just let those 375 fans stay and take in the mens.

I feel Iowa has a much better chance of going on a skid trying to cram 4 conference games into one week.

As for the NCAA Tournament, I am not concerned about that right now. Iowa will have time to rest between the BTT and the start of the NCAA Tournament. A Sunday BTT championship game at the latest, and a Thursday NCAA game at the earliest. Could end up being Friday/Saturday until the following Friday, depending.

Either way, Iowa is being put in a bad (or potentially bad) spot since IU is refusing to cooperate in playing the game anywhere except for the ruins of assembly hall.

Fair point.

BINGO! This is where I have been since I learned that Indiana declined to have the game tonight in Indianapolis.

In my world, there is NO WAY they can guarantee the safety of Assembly Hall before the end of the season. When something like this happens, (especially in light of what very well could have happened - beyond disastrous), you don't put on a couple of band-aids and pray.

So right now, Indiana chooses either a neutral court or agrees to move the games to the other arenas. As for Iowa, this means that, right now, the Hoosiers find a new date in Indianapolis and fast, or move the game to Carver-Hawkeye arena, or take a 2-0 forfeit.

The fact that Indiana's main concern after this potential disaster seems to be to try to hang on to their home games is, to me, the height of absurdity - it is downright reckless.
