Didn't Understand The Indiana To Tourney Talk.

Can somebody please explain. The announcers kept stating how this could be Indiana's last chance and would have to win to keep their tourney hopes alive. They lost the last 5 games prior to the Iowa game and were just 3 games above .500 with a losing conference record.

Iowa had a similar record and even better conference record by 1 game. How could Iowa not be tourney worthy or even NIT worthy but Indiana still have hopes to be in the tourney. I didn't get it.

I realize they beat NC early in the season, but their RPI, BPI or whatever couldn't be that good to overcome their .500 record.

Anybody else find the Indiana to the tourney talk a bit odd?

Their RPI before the game was 90. I mean they were hanging on by an absolute thread at that point. They are done now, just like Texas Tech is, but both of those teams keep getting talked about. It's basically a miracle run or winning every game until then that would make the difference.

That entire discussion was ridiculous. They have lost 7 out of 8 and will have to win the BTT like us and several other teams IMO.

It's a weird year they were talking about Clemson in the same manner. A team that was 14-12 and 4-10 in conference. I don't think people realize there are a bunch of power 5 teams on that NCAA/NIT bubble.

Yeah, but did you notice last night that ESPN's BPI index has them #29 in the country. ESPN and the BPI is a joke in both football and basketball.

They also beat Kansas on a neutral floor. But yes they are firmly out.

Also adding the North Carolina win at home made most think they'd turn it around after poor BTT start. But the IPFW lost might have foreshadowed their eventual collapse. I think you mostly have crean to blame, guy can recruit, but to have the capacity to beat Kansas and NC but then lose like this has to be on the coach. They're good enough to run the table BTT though and really wouldn't be too surprised, then some how make some tournament magic. Didn't Kemba Walker's UCONN team have to win their conference tournament to get in, then won the NCAA title?

Never mind

Unconn was 9th in big east standings and a high seed for conference but they were still ranked 21st in nation and were an expected at large for the tournament. Only similarity is good team with underachieving conference play.

Actually makes sense - BPI makes adjustments for teams when they have injuries. When they had a full squad they beat KU and UNC. Now that they are injured they are struggling mightily. That said it doesn't really make a lot of sense if the guys aren't going to be back this year.-

They just want to have Blue bloodish programs in the discussion.. To me that's all it is. So beating Iowa with what our record is was going to just propel them in? Their body of work just isn't there. Whether they would have won or lost at Iowa. They'd have had to win out and win a couple BIG tourney games. It wasn't going to happen. I'd say losing to Iowa cemented it to where they can't even pretend that they have a chance now. A part of it I suppose is just how weak of a field of 64 it'll be this year too. (Which stinks cause it'd have been nice for Iowa to have gotten in)

I think because Lunardi had them in the last 4 out and they were grasping at straws to keep people from tuning out.

So if Indiana continues to shit the bed and crean gets fired, does Alf return to resurrect the program?

A couple of marqui wins and a fast start and a February fade where you lose 8 out of 9. Hawkeye fans just don't realize it happens to other programs too. Crean has 2 Big Ten titles in the last 5 years. I predict he survives to coach some more years. This years brackets are going to be insane to pick.

Crean has a huge buyout, I think it's around $7 million. With the injuries as an excuse he will get at least 1 more season.

Agree. Hard to fire a guy who's won 2 BIG titles the past 5 years as well. I think the injuries definitely save him this year.

I disagree, for some reason they keep talking about Clemson too, who is an absurd 4-10 in ACC play. The bubble is just that weak.
