Did Iowa lose?

For those upset with the loss, Iowa did improve and looked pretty good at times. Wadley especially looked like what was expected of him. Kings penalty was stupid for a senior.

For those all giddy about it...it was Purdue. They are a bad team. They aren't a solid team trying to get better. They have some things that are very bad. Their quarterback totally has to step into the throw to look good. Not realistic.

An alarming stat. Iowa had only 2 sacs and 3 tackles for loss against a bad team. Iowa's passing game was terrible.

The running game looked good, against a team ranked 4th from the bottom against the run.

KF oft puts the 2nd team in during difficult situations. The play calling is lame. Rarely does the 2nd team really get to play with starters and therein is a huge problem and why injuries and graduation seem so devastating to Iowa.

Yes they won and looked better. For the detractors, there is no new Kirk. Development program or not, there have been very disappointing years. Next year looks to be one of them.

About developmental programs. About every program in the Big 10 is a developmental program outside of OSU and Michigan. In the past 10 years I"m pretty confident that Iowa ranks behind WIsky and MSU. Wisky has had what 3 coaches in that time. Why not aspire to be Wisky? Iowa has compteted head to head with them over 10 years, but Wisky doesn't have as many losses to low level teams nor finish as low in the conference. Do any of us want to be Purdue, IL, Rutgers, and MN? No. But we'd like to see some more consistency and less maddening events.

Basically this all started in my mind back in 09 not going for the win on the road at OSU.

Excellent post HG!

Apparently you not only speak it, you write it too. There's nothing in my post about Iowa beating Wisconsin and it not counting. (that's some leap) It's a simple response to the OP Subject line. (who's post also says nothing about the Iowa-Wisconsin game)

You filled in the rest completely on your own. A very 2016 idiot move.

So he injected a comment about the upcoming Iowa vs Wisconsin game... and you're complaining about it? Why? You're the one who injected NDSU into it. The OP had nothing at all about NDSU, which makes you guilty of your own criticism of Dean.

I'll admit to being gitty about the Purdue win. I've seen Kirk lose or almost lose to bad teams way too often to not be gitty when we beat up a bad team. I was also gitty after the ISU game. The following game showed me why I was right to be.

The o-line looked fixed in the running game the first half. The defense -- not so much. The linebackers were eaten alive in the passing game. We got a lot of hurries, but few turnovers. If you have an accurate but not great qb, you can compete with Iowa.

I was happy at the half, but wish we would have gashed them a couple times with pkay action in the third. Instead we did four minute offense for thirty minutes.

Game gets a B- from me. You can't give up 35 points and get an A.

I agree, the backups have a long way to go before they are ready to contribute.

1st string D for 50 min. gave up 46 yards rushing and 269 yard passing

2nd string D in slop time gave up 235 yards passing, that has to get better.

It was a great win. We are still in a position to win the Big Ten West. We are also ONE WIN away from a bowl bid, which is still a big deal for young kids who enjoy the bowl trips. I see nothing but positives with this dominant win.

I recognize that Iowa is still an unknown in the BT football world. I would say that we have seen some improvement, both on the D and on the O as the season has progressed. We were beaten by a very good NW team, who just took MSU apart in East Lansing. Yes, I know MSU is down this year. NW may have a lot to say about who wins the West, however. The loss to NDST was an anomaly. They are a very good team that stumbled against an average SDST team last weekend. That happens. Take a look around the country and you will see many examples.

Clearly, how we play against W, win or lose, will tell us a lot about how much progress Iowa has made as October winds down. I am really concerned about our passing game...CJ and the receivers both seem to have their problems. Injuries are starting to mount and depth is always a problem for most of the teams in the BT. Defensively, again, I see improvement but also too many mistakes, like blown assignments and missed tackles, that result in big plays.

I honestly thought we would be in the top 4 or 5 in the BT at this point in the season, but we are hovering around 6 or 7. Not a disaster, but disappointing. It is true that we are very close to being 6-1 at this point in the season, which is about where I thought we would be. Good God, would I love to beat the Badgers...
