For those upset with the loss, Iowa did improve and looked pretty good at times. Wadley especially looked like what was expected of him. Kings penalty was stupid for a senior.
For those all giddy about it...it was Purdue. They are a bad team. They aren't a solid team trying to get better. They have some things that are very bad. Their quarterback totally has to step into the throw to look good. Not realistic.
An alarming stat. Iowa had only 2 sacs and 3 tackles for loss against a bad team. Iowa's passing game was terrible.
The running game looked good, against a team ranked 4th from the bottom against the run.
KF oft puts the 2nd team in during difficult situations. The play calling is lame. Rarely does the 2nd team really get to play with starters and therein is a huge problem and why injuries and graduation seem so devastating to Iowa.
Yes they won and looked better. For the detractors, there is no new Kirk. Development program or not, there have been very disappointing years. Next year looks to be one of them.
About developmental programs. About every program in the Big 10 is a developmental program outside of OSU and Michigan. In the past 10 years I"m pretty confident that Iowa ranks behind WIsky and MSU. Wisky has had what 3 coaches in that time. Why not aspire to be Wisky? Iowa has compteted head to head with them over 10 years, but Wisky doesn't have as many losses to low level teams nor finish as low in the conference. Do any of us want to be Purdue, IL, Rutgers, and MN? No. But we'd like to see some more consistency and less maddening events.
Basically this all started in my mind back in 09 not going for the win on the road at OSU.

Here is the thing, I'm not "giddy" about the Purdue game. We won the game, our offense looked good, our first team D looked good, now move onto the next week, this team is a work in progress and hopefully they continue to improve.
You are also correct, there has NEVER, EVER, been a "new Kirk".
The last thing. When did I ever "stop" being an idiot? I mean "there I go again", really? I never stopped being who I am.....that is why the haters hate me. I'll wear the "hater" "idiot" badge with pride.

Iowa fans want euphoria. Euphoria now ! Have not had a really great win in a long long time.. the kind of game where you wonder going in "can we win"? Have not had that kind of game...just a lot of wins on paper to a blah blah team..and a win is at best a relief. Then a loss and the world blows up.

Not spending the time to read all within this post, but I've got no problem with the Twos playing in the 4th quarter. They didn't look so good, who knows, maybe they were all trying to make hero plays and got caught - Purdue may be bad, but their starters are still quality athletes that if you're not paying attention will burn you.
I could only imagine the crapola that Ferentz would take if the starters were left in and Beathard, Daniels or Wadley got hurt. Who remembers the criticism he took when leaving Adam Robinson late into the Michigan State rout in 2010?
Bottom line - Iowa dominated Purdue on Saturday.
