DESPERATELY seeking 1 season ticket or attorney

That's just cold. I can't imagine having to get tickets like a regular prole. What's next? Will you be drinking bourbon and eating popeyes chicken?

Look pal, I need to be in the back row because the blue hairs all yell "sit down" at critical moments in the game and people have thrown things at me before when they have disagreed with some of the things I have said. I don't drink bourbon.

Thanks for your words of encouragement.

FWIW, I have donated half of that money to the University, it's just that it went through his name for tax reasons.

It is not often that tax fraud and conspiracy to commit tax fraud are expressly admitted on internet message boards...

Small potatoes, yes. Likelihood of discovery, low. Probable consequences in the event of discovery, slap on the wrist. But, still not a great idea to post about it.

It ain't tax fraud, I was buying tickets at his after-tax cost. Obviously I paid more than face to account for the donation. What do you want to do, have me pay the full seven hundred and change and the figure out his tax savings and 1099 him for the delta? Should everyone who participates in a ticket buying group do this? Please provide Tax Court ruulings and IRS Private Letter Rulings to support your analysis.

If there is tax fraud, it is the University's scam to structure 50% of the ticket price as a donation.

you crack me up OK4p. I appreciate the good laugh today. I needed it. The stress level is high today down here in North Cackalacky. I'm trying to hire an attorney and my first choice that I used to work with wants to charge too damn much. I'm just a regular prole these days and needed a discount. Going to local and save some money. Probably won't be worth it though. I should spend the extra dough.

So you think that taxpayers can transfer deductions amongst each other and at the expense of the IRS without violating the law?

Had you paid the donation directly to the University, because you do not itemize, the IRS would have collected an additional $X due to the reduced deduction claimed by your buddy, which it did not collect due to you and your buddy's scheme.

If I already used my energy efficiency tax credit, can I simply have my neighbor buy some new energy-efficient products intended for my re-purchase so that we can mooch off of Uncle Sam?

?

Tax fraud? That's a stretch. The IRS is getting their money and nobody is double-dipping, that's all that matters. If Okeefe's buddy has an arrangement with him on the tickets, that's up to him.

O'Keefe couldn't begin to qualify as a Senator is this is his version of "tax fraud"

The IRS isn't getting their money (OK4P's buddy's deductions went up, thereby reducing his total taxes owed). That is the point.

I said it was small potatoes. I was just trying to look out for OK4P.

The burrito lift is surpassed on the lameness scale in B10 football by only two things: (1) "it's another Wildcat FFFIIIIIRRRST DOWN RAAAAWR" and (2) "Boiler UP."

You've obviously never seen a game at Bloomington.....the entire 10K Indiana home-fan-base pumps its arms up and down like 10 times, then point down the field (most of the time in the correct direction) whenever the Loosiers make a first down....followed by a faux-wildcat "another Hoosier firssssst down" out of their highschool-quality sound system.

That truly is lame.

You need to get out more.

As my ex-buddy has made abundantly clear, I have no privity with the University and I was merely a purchaser of tickets he was reselling. Given his shenanigans, I threatened to contact the IRS on him and as he has pointed out, he has paid his taxes in full (as he derived no income from his resale of tickets by selling them at his tax adjusted cost). Surely the cost of a gallon of gas sold by Exxon contains multiple price reductions driven by tax deductions, but they report their income on each gallon of gas sold after taking these tax benefits into account, but that does not mean that I as a purchaser from them am committing tax fraud by getting this discount at the pump.

I don't disagree that anyone who is buying at $750 and reselling to their friends at $750 while keeping the tax deduction for themself is committing tax fraud, but the mere resale at after-tax cost is not tax fraud and as I have learned, I am merely a purchaser from a reseller and I have no privity with the University. The (now realized) substantial risk of forfeiture as a result of lack of contractual privity driven by the reseller relationship is what makes this completely different than your sham transaction hypothetical. In that sort of tax credit scenario, the tax law requires the installation of the energy efficient equipment on the taxpayer's real property, however, there is no similar restriction prohibiting a ticket purchaser from reselling, donating, bequeathing, divesting, disposing of, giving, transferring or not using any tickets that he or she purchases. If there were, there would be roughly 25,000 people at every Hawk game. But then again, I haven't read Three Felonies A Day lately, so perhaps you are right and there is a Tax Court ruling on this very issue and 98% of the folks who donate to the University could be charged with felonies, but until you can produce it, please leave your conjecture at the door, pal.

Fortunately, it happens so rarely (sans Hardy versus Shada) that it's really not that annoying.

You can, however, hear Bobby Knight laughing all the way from Lubbock.

I will say the college tailgate south of the stadium is pretty impressive also was interesting to see that yoga pants seem to be required tailgating attire for the coeds.

Too bad about 98% of them head back to their dorm/apartment when the game actually starts. :)
