Derrick Mitchell transferring

Wadley showed his ability to catch passes and is by far the more dynamic playmaker.

We don't need that 3rd down back WR, Wadley will fill that need and will probably want to showcase it even more next year as I think that may be more his niche in the pros.

Good luck to Mitchell wherever he ends up.

The grad transfer rule is really a good service to guys like him who actually want to play. He's earned the right to play somewhere else if they will give him the opportunity.

Here is a crazy thought. Play Wadley and Mitchell together in 3rd down situations flanking the QB in the gun. I saw OU do this often with Mixon and Perine. Iowa obviously lacks play makers on the outside, and Wadley can't do everything for this team next year unfortunately. This is the whole get your best players on the field logic.

I agree with two sentiments here:
1. I wish him well
2. I don't blame him

I disagree that this isn't a big loss, even if Toks is a better "running back." Iowa desperately lacks skilled players and DMX imo was probably our 2nd best skilled player behind Wadley. Heck before injury he had beaten Wadley out for the third down back role. The underutilization of said talent is a problem that comes from elsewhere, but I digress...

Good post. So Wadley is basically our only back with experience next year, unless you want to count Toks and his carries in garbage time. KF did a nice job of wasting his redshirt. Mitchell did very well in his limited chances, and I agree that he was probably our second best skill player behind Wadley. Just another example of how KF does not utilize what little talent he has. KF is a complete idiot.

Prepare for kirk groupies to defend their idol...

This one really bums me out. I really liked his skillset. Seemed to be a great blocker, good hands, good size, and ran hard. Completely thought he'd be #2 next year if healthy.

I don't blame him at all, always a Hawkeye. Great luck to him.

Dang.

I'm definitely not a KF appologist but Mitchell was just a victim of a logjam. 2 years ago he got touches primarily on 3rd down passing plays. Last year Wadley showed he can handle those responsibilities. We had 2 stud running backs who were ahead of him and there are only a certain amount of plays in a game (especially in our offense). Who did you want to take carries away from, Wadley or Daniels?

I've seen people move say move him back to WR (his original position). I could see that work but maybe it is difficult to switch back
And forth, maybe it was difficult to do that because he was injuried at the beginning of the year, maybe the staff wanted the insurance of another runningback incase LD or AW got hurt, or he wanted to stay at runningback. I don't know.

Thanks for the effort! Good luck in the future! Please don't go anywhere that we Play next year!

When you recruit and then develop several quality players for one or two positions, someone is going to get left out of the mix. I really like this kid, but I think he saw the writing on the wall.

I get what your saying, but if healthy, given the issues at WR, get the kid some plays out of the backfield or motion him to slot.

I'm a KF supporter overall, but if DMX wasn't injured, I don't get it.

True, but you have a seemingly quality, versatile skill player, especially when uber thin at WR, the logjam theory isn't enough reason not to find a way to use him.

I think he violated team rules in 2015. The Doghouse is brutal.
