I agree. But it sounds like he wanted to move on, which I totally respect. I wish him the best.Kallenburger Is a big loss. That stinks

Those of us with a few more gray hairs (that's us, HaydenSly) remember that Hayden Fry wanted assistants that had aspirations to become HC some day. While stability is good, upward mobility is also a sign of a strong program/organization/company. You're not going to hang on to all of your young talent...some is going to leave.
The key is...can KFz replace these guys with the right people. We don't need more Kennedy/White kind of mistakes.
I think if you don't have position coaches looking to move up you have a problem, but the coordinators, particularly now, can be guys looking to stick at that position. Norm and Phil Parker are great examples. O'Keefe messed up by chasing the NFL allure with a bad franchise. Venables at Clemson is another guy who is locked up as a coordinator with a massive salary.
Yeah, I see no upside in hiring a coordinator from a better program to be a coordinator here. It ain't a lateral move and you know something ain't right.True. Then we also have the example of Greg Davis. No interest in anything but taking another round of paychecks. Talk about dead weight
Exactly. He doesn't owe this program a darn thing. If his heart is not into it, slogging through a fifth year of football is not good for Mark or the team. Thanks for your service, young man.
Losing Polesek isn't surprising. He's a good coach. He was probably overqualified for our Oline job at the time he took it. He'll be an HC before long in the D1 I bet.
Foster had been doing a great job and who could blame a guy for wanting to live and work in San Diego? Besides it being the pros it could be just as simple as that.
Now Kallenburger leaving surprises me. Never heard a rumor about that possibly happening. I wonder if coaches had an inkling cause that could hurt and I bet it will....
I read that he's retiring from football he's not trying to go to the NFL. That's why it's surprising he's just had enough of it...Well he gave 4 years to Iowa and got back alot. He is very good and might be able to get taken by the nfl, He has a frame that could put 20 more pounds on it without probably losing any quickness. I would like to see him as a backup tackle for the chiefs as they could maybe do with an upgrade.

My freshman year at Iowa I got to know a hawk football player who lived near me on a small wing of rooms. He was a backup guard starting his third year and he abruptly quit the team in late Sept or so. He was getting more serious with his gal friend he told me and he also said he was just tired of the head banging. Best wishes to Kallenberger
