Derby Enrolls in Juco, will play QB

Well he will have to preform at a high level to make it back to a BCS school. I don't know if it's worth the risk.

i'd bet he has his eyes pointed towards Manhattan. Family relationship of some sorts, i'd guess, and an offense that can use a tebow-type QB. i'm sure it is no coincidence that he ended up at this juco.

Papa Derby is friends with Bielema

Bielema recruited Coffeyville CC when he was an assistant at K-State and has connections there,.

Bielema tells the Derby's to go there for a year and he will be a spot waiting for him at Wisky.

He will have to give up his moped. However he gets this.

could be.

but someone at KSU is probably still friendly with Derby, still recruits Coffeyville and runs an offense that would fit Derby's skill set.

I hope AJ does well and gets his shot. It's too bad it didn't work out here for him but I agree, there's nothing worse than not going for what you really want. It'll suck to see him at Wisky (if that's true) but I hope he eventually ends his football career with no regrets.

After watching his throwing motion and accuracy, I can only hope Bielema is successful in landing him and keeps him at quarterback.

Coffeyville is going to offer competition as well. My son was recruited to play there and we watched them play Butler CC in October. CCC had some huge kid from New York playing QB. He was about 6'5" and 230 pounds...looked like Vince Young, but looking at the roster, I don't see much behind him...only one other QB from a kansas high school. Butler had the kid that previously backed up Scheelhause from Illinois (Chandler Whitmer). Both QB's were absolute studs.

This is one of the very best juco's in the nation, but also has a reputation for being a pretty rough town and rough place to go to school.

+1 to both posts :D

Acedemically doesn't make a whole lot of sense. 2 years at Ia then to a Juco. Why not just transfer to UNI or a similar school. Heck JC did ok at Eastern Ill, and well you know.

this moves means he wants to play d1 qb. if he just wanted to be a qb he would go to uni. but he wants to be a qb at a major school and by going there he would lose a year of elgibility. this route allows him to play next year and get to a d1 school with 2 yrs left to play. this is what cam newton did (and others). hopefully it works for aj i understand what he wants. though the iowa coaches were doing what they thought was best him and the team. he thinks this is what is best for him. cant fault anyone for following their dream.

It's not about academics, it's about sports. Some players need the time at JuCo because either they're underrated as a talent or they need more developmental time, maybe both in some cases. There are a lot of good players that slip through cracks of the D1 scouting regimes and frankly with kids developing physically at such different times in relation to one another late bloomers can get missed easily.
