Depth Chart for Purdue Game

There have been times when the hawks pulled some linemen and blocked more hat on hat power running. That was even with BF as run coordinator. I am no blocking guru but I wonder if this offensive line just doesnt have the feet, quickness, etc to effectively do reach and zone blocking. Kirk's linemen tend to be a little undersized even at tackle although wirfs and jackson are two of the bigger ones.

I see Wirfs sometimes make a block and when disengaged he doesnt look to block anyone else, and maybe they are not great at holding their blocks.

Is it time to dump zone blocking for the majority of running plays and go with more power, straight ahead blocking and pulling linemen to open holes and swing around to seal off pursuit.

If we shut them out, 3 points would have been enough.

I don't want to do this again. I'm not doing this why isn't this guy not playing. IF YOU PRODUCE, THAT'S WHO WE ARE PLAYING.

Maybe not word for word, but pretty close.
I'll let you all decide if guys are producing.
Like I said last week. We literally could have had a JV team on offense against Michigan and at most, lost by 3 more points.

I wonder if Martin regrets leaving UM? Did he get any snaps against PSU?
We were LIGHTING IT UP against PSU. Why waste putting in a 4-star still offensive player? Kinda like last year when we lit up NW, so no need to play our All-America Fant against them. Besides, playing athletes like that ‘speeds up the game’. Can’t have that

Pretty amazing to be as bad as you've been offensively in the past two games and not change a thing.

BTW, I'm starting to wonder why Iowa bothered getting Oliver Martin eligible. Does he just suck or what?

Martin has only been with the team since the summer and he's behind 4 guys who are in their 2nd and 3rd year in the program.

If he hasn't carved out a role by a year from now, than its time for concern but lets give him some time. He's not exactly behind 4 duds either.

If the above was true, neither of the following would have happened:
* Oliver, lawyers, & the Hawks did everything humanly possible to get Oliver eligible this year; and
* KF said prior to the season if Oliver became eligible "he would be able to help our team" right away. They may
not be '4 duds', but when Oliver was practicing with them, the coaches said Oliver would be playing quite a bit.
He isn't. It's a reasonable question to ask why, especially when 1 of the WRs is dropping as many as he's catching.

How complex is our offense that it takes a seasoned player like Martin to figure out the playbook? I’ve heard he’s learning all 3 positions but maybe it makes sense to have him learn one so he can contribute right away ?

those players in front of him will be there next year too.

Tracy has playmaking ability but he drops 1/2 his passes.

Rico has made a few nice plays for us but i wonder if Martin is in his place we score vs being caught from behind.

this isn’t the first time this has happened. Was it Powell the WR JC transfer that we got and played him 5 snaps a game, either a go route or bubble screen.
Kept being told he couldn’t learn the playbook.
Boyle was the same. Couldn’t figure out a slant pattern, yet all the kid did was tear up our defense in practice.

Brian Ferentz is absolutely clueless.

I hate to bag on any player, especially as one as likeable and hard-working as Landan Paulsen, but when do we decide he's missed his opportunity?

Two weeks in a row he's looked lost out there, against top opposition admittedly, but far too much of it has been to mental errors. I counted no less than 3 major blowups (1st and goal, Goodson fumble, one of Stanley's sacks) that were the direct result of him going the wrong way or missing his assignment.

When do we decide that it's a competition between Ince and maybe Britt if he's comfortable on the left side?

Yep, hate to see RS Senior out there struggling. I've come to the conclusion that - usually - If a guy isn't on the 2-deep roster by year 3 in the program, this is what you get. Usually if they don't make the 2-deep after 3 years in the program, we don't see them at all. Usually.

This is a strong lineup! The team is getting healthy and younger players are stepping up! Iowa will crush Purdont!

Well maybe he is just bad then. Or maybe the coaches are just such poor talent evaluators at the offensive positions that the misjudged him as being an impact player.

Someone had to say it. I know for a fact Kallenberger was practicing some at LG at times so why wouldn’t he play there and then Britt or someone else go to RG.

As you noted the starters are making screw ups so at this point why not just put the most talented guys out there and see what happens.

I think Kallenberger played most of game against PSU at Guard. So FWIW. Ince and Paulsen shared the other Guard spot.

Also, love Ragaini in the slot, hate him as a PR. He's too indecisive. I get it, he's young and inexperienced, but why have him learn on the fly when it hurts our field position constantly?

Paulsen did get yanked for a while. Ince was brought in. Paulsen was yanked after one of the said mistakes.

He did, but the fact he's still on the #1 line is frustrating.

Ince may have made some mistakes too, but he's younger and has a higher ceiling. Landan has had his shot, and unfortunately hasn't gotten it done.
