Depth Chart for Purdue Game

I wonder if Martin regrets leaving UM? Did he get any snaps against PSU?

Is it because he's not as talented as the 5 guys in front of him, still doesn't have a grasp of the offense or just Brian effectively telling him he shouldn't have come in with a sense of entitlement that he was going to take a starting spot here? Or all of the above?

Indeed, Hankins playing is a big upgrade...vs Penn St. when they tried the RB flea-flicker to his side he didn't bite on the fake at all and the RB ended up having to keep the ball and take a 3-4 yd loss. I'm not a huge Welch fan, but when he was injured the entire 4th Qtr and Doyle had his first meaningful snaps at middle LB, it was not pretty. There was a reason the Nits kept pounding the middle of Iowa's defense...he was a step slow at reacting to everything he saw, which would be natural. A tough spot to get your first meaningful snaps at the college level. With Purdue on the horizen, time to break out this year's version of the 4-2-5 with Moss/Brents in and Welch/Doyle out.

I don't know which, but I'd like to see him replace Tracy at this point -- who's great after the catch but that's not relevant when he's dropping half the balls thrown to him the past couple games. Iowa's offense just can't have that, and I think Oliver's hands are better. Play Oliver more and Tracy less.

I hate to bag on any player, especially as one as likeable and hard-working as Landan Paulsen, but when do we decide he's missed his opportunity?

Two weeks in a row he's looked lost out there, against top opposition admittedly, but far too much of it has been to mental errors. I counted no less than 3 major blowups (1st and goal, Goodson fumble, one of Stanley's sacks) that were the direct result of him going the wrong way or missing his assignment.

When do we decide that it's a competition between Ince and maybe Britt if he's comfortable on the left side?

Also, love Ragaini in the slot, hate him as a PR. He's too indecisive. I get it, he's young and inexperienced, but why have him learn on the fly when it hurts our field position constantly?

Someone had to say it. I know for a fact Kallenberger was practicing some at LG at times so why wouldn’t he play there and then Britt or someone else go to RG.

As you noted the starters are making screw ups so at this point why not just put the most talented guys out there and see what happens.

It’s time for wholesale changes on the Oline. Moving AJ or Wirfs to guard and MK to tackle. Ince/ Britt at the other guard spot. You can’t keep getting blown up like this inside. Get your best 5 out there and go with it. The guard position is literally losing games for Iowa, it’s that bad

It does make you wonder about the four other offensive linemen we brought in this year. Haven’t really heard anything on any of those guys. Britt is the only name we’ve heard and he’s coming back from an ACL injury.

Hopefully there is some talent there and they just need some time to get doyle-ized. Volk and Elsbury in the current class are both considered guards and have good size.

I have no clue what happened to our OLine recruiting for a few years there but I still feel better about where it will be in the next few years based on the recent cycles.

Pretty amazing to be as bad as you've been offensively in the past two games and not change a thing.

BTW, I'm starting to wonder why Iowa bothered getting Oliver Martin eligible. Does he just suck or what?

It’s the ferentz treatment. It’s happened a million times over. It’s not a good look. He earns his reputation with skill players and now brian follows suit. The level of stubbornness of these two is top 5 in ferentz annoyances

I doubt OM sucks at all. We didn’t play Fant enough either and we know he doesn’t suck. He was close to starting fir Michigan, if not starting this year. Need to get him on the field. I wonder if the staff knows he’s an outside one on one downfield threat, not so much over the middle (at least that's what I've heard) .
