Depth Chart for Minnesota

I noticed that "audible into a run to the short side for no gain" is still starting...metaphorically speaking. I think this is something like 12 years straight.

Any chance we'll get a different first teamer?

Well, bob, you are insinuating that MQ is the wrong type of talent to play in a pro-style. So, yeah. But mostly, I am wondering because what he does possess is speed. We've got a couple wr's dropping passes; so, why not see what MQ can do? I mean, it isn't a stretch to wonder that, at all.

I'm ALL for seeing what he can do. But maybe there is a reason he hasn't put it all together enough to see the field.

What I'm "insinuating" is that he spent the past couple seasons in a completely different type of offense than what is run here. Coupled with his late arrival, maybe it's just a learning curve. And who knows, maybe we WILL see him at some point this season...

All I know is, if J. Jackson continues to not even frickin' try to catch a punt in the air, put in Max Cooper there...I don;t care just put in ANYBODY ELSE in there that will at least make an effort!
So much of our struggles this season stem from piss-poor field position, and our punt receive team is a big reason why we start so deep in our own territory so often. CATCH THE DAMN BALL PLEASE!
Not fielding the punt used to be the MO of a KF coached team (up until the late 2000s)...not fielding the punt meant not fumbling the punt even though that might sacrifice field position for the offense. After the mid 2000s and after KF implemented trusted ball handlers to field punts, Iowa started to field them.

Maybe, for Iowa to field punts, again, a trusted ball receiver like a Wadley (or King) needs to field punts?

This could just be KF's way of getting Jackson acclimated to a punt fielding position. Obviously, KF doesn't have complete confidence in Jackson fielding punts.

Then if he isn't, why is he on the roster? Why did we use a scholarship on him? Look, I personally think MQ does have talent. I want to see it on the field.
So you can't be on the roster if you aren't playing? They wouldn't have many guys left. He may have talent, but he hasn't beat our the guys in front of him. And there isn't much to go except for a few catches at a lower level school.

well, if he isn't good enough to at least deserve a shot in place of a kid that's dropped 5 passes in the last 2 games, then you'd have to wonder, right? but again, i believe he does have the talent. So, a logical question is "why hasn't he seen not even 1 play of action, yet?

No, he has the confidence, or he wouldn't be out there, even as a designated fair-catcher. The confidence problem is on Josh. And he freely admitted (and it was kinda obvious) to losing the crucial one in the sun for a second.

The problem may not even BE "fielding the punt" as much as it is, "Having to continually field the punt inside our own 15 because we can't get any good field field position from our offense, our punters haven't been overwhelming, and we're sorta damned if we do/don't".

What sucked is that one of the (seemingly) very few times we had a chance to get a punt and gain great field position, things went exactly the way they didn't need to go.

Because he may not be showing that talent in practice? Only guessing. :)

perhaps that leads us full-circle back to player evaluation at the WR position? :) I guess my point is, when you have a play that opens a door for someone else to step in (via competition throughout the season) why isn't MQ getting at least one target to see how he does? One series? Or, we go back to player evaluation.

Coming from an option offense, you would think MQ could block. That is an attribute FKF loves. I wonder what else is happening?

That's fair to look at player evaluation.

Why don't we just move Ferentz and the Hawkeyes to Europe. Their fans are ok with watching 90 minutes of play with little to no scoring and it's a turnover if you catch the ball.
