Depth Chart for Minnesota

Gervase. Benched earlier in the year because he was so bad, but starting again now because of injury. Put Geno Stone on the field and let him play. Who cares if he makes a mistake. Gervase will for sure. The upside and athletic ability of Stone is far greater than Gervase. Put him in and let him get experience, this season is shot anyway.

Not saying I disagree with giving Stone a chance but I think the coaches want to get Hooker comfortable at SS and that's Stone's position. To play Stone, they'd probably then put Hooker back at FS. I don't think they want to keep moving Hooker back and forth with the chance Snyder will be back soon.

That said, Stone looked to be amping things up during the pregame at Northwestern. I would not be surprised to see him in there should there be a breakdown. I think the leash for Gervase is short.

All I know is, if J. Jackson continues to not even frickin' try to catch a punt in the air, put in Max Cooper there...I don;t care just put in ANYBODY ELSE in there that will at least make an effort!
So much of our struggles this season stem from piss-poor field position, and our punt receive team is a big reason why we start so deep in our own territory so often. CATCH THE DAMN BALL PLEASE!

Agree. I like JJ a lot and he's been really good at CB but I have to think the coaches are looking at other options this week.

I bet the Hawks hang 40 points on the Gophers. This is how it goes.

Correct. When the complaining starts to get too loud, KF allows the offense to cut loose a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if we score something like 30+ points this week, and it's a blow out.

People will say "where was this offense?", and "Alright, Brian has got it figured out!!!"

Then we come out against OSU and run up the gut 35x and score 3 points

ESPN has Lattimore for 7 total tackles and .5 sacks on the year. It shows no stats available against Wyoming or IL. Did he miss any games or did he just not have any stats?

In comparison, Bazata had games with 8, 6 and 5 tackles and has 2 sacks on the year.

I miss having a beast up front like Carl Davis & Jaleel.

I disagree....he always catches the ball....when it's at the 10 yd line or inside

I recall this statement from brian. But h'es better at not saying something then calling a game, right now. He says "But right now those guys have continued to climb, and it’s not so much what Matt is or is not doing, it’s the fact these other guys are coming in every day and pushing it forward, and so I think the challenge for Matt would be to get going a little bit and try to pass him." I interpret this double-speak as he's good enough, but they started in front of him. Okay, but we're now at game 8 of what looks to be will be an average season, at best. If he's talented enough and was only behind the other guys because of when he arrive on campus, why haven't we seen him yet? If he hasn't picked up this offense in almost 3 months, why is he on the team?

<<If he hasn't picked up this offense in almost 3 months, why is he on the team?>>

Seriously? Where, oh where, does it say he hasn't picked up the offense? And you don't boot a guy simply because he hasn't moved up the depth chart as fast as some thought or would like for him to have moved up the depth chart.

Um, yeah. That is evident by who has played. You know, Easley has dropped a lot of passes lately. Five, think in the last 2 games. So again, why is MQ on the team if he isn't good enough to get a look over a guy that's having problems catching the ball, right now?

Yeah, and why is Butler allowed to take up space? The dude can't even last a season without getting injured. Kick his ass back to Nevada, right?

And maybe the QB needs to throw passes that aren't reminiscent of the starting QB of 10 seasons ago. That really might help.

that's the point, bob, WHY has not seen the field. brian gave a double-sided non answer so we're left to wonder why MQ hasn't seen the field.

who said anything about butler? your apology tour has stopped drawing a crowd. I'm only asking legit questions regarding the personnel on and not on the 2-deep for the MN game.

Better question might be why we aren't seeing Adrian Falconer or Devonte Young, both of whom have been in the program longer than Easley, ISM, B Smith or M Cooper.

Do you REALLY worry about an answer for why a WR who played in an option offense hasn't seen the field at a school that runs a pro-style offense?

The point is that it's ridiculous to ask "Why is he on the team?" You make him sound like so much baggage, it's a wonder you tolerate Butler's injury.

Yeah it'd sure be nice to win the field position battle once a half... The D not only hasn't been getting many turnovers but hasn't been able to get a 3 and out. So to cap it off whenever they have forced a punt the other guys pin us inside the 15 every time. The D hasn't exactly helped out the offense much either from a team perspective. The O has to take more shots outside. More double moves. Corners are jumping all the short stuff we run. It's the only way they'll get Wadley more room to operate. It's not rocket science...

Well, Ohio State is the top scoring team in the Big Ten and has a better scoring defense than Iowa, so to say maybe we will be a dog against OSU would be in line with what the stats show. Our D will have its hands full and then some. OSU averaging 47 points per game for 7 games. We aren't going to win a shootout with them.

The guy we miss the most is Jaleel Johnson. That dude was obviously a force in the middle that is missing this year badly.

He sure was and they played him a ton of snaps. I'm pretty disappointed in how the Dline has played. I thought with the depth there it'd have been a strength but they've only been impactful on a spotty basis. I'd love to see more of AJ out there like everyone else. He still seems to have the training wheels on... Not sure why it's not like Hesse is setting the world on fire out there.

Well, bob, you are insinuating that MQ is the wrong type of talent to play in a pro-style. So, yeah. But mostly, I am wondering because what he does possess is speed. We've got a couple wr's dropping passes; so, why not see what MQ can do? I mean, it isn't a stretch to wonder that, at all.
