Depth Chart for Minnesota

one could make the case that your point #3 shows that Iowa is very productive when they use Stanley's arm and go with a little bit of tempo. I mean, when you're scoring points at that junction of a game; you have an offense that likes to play fast. But.....

From Brian Ferentz during the bye week:

Q. When you look at Matt Quarrels, a guy who came in late, started late, does he fit in right now?

BRIAN FERENTZ: Well, right now, no. Right now we’ve got guys that are ahead of him, and the challenge would be for Matt to push and move past some of these guys. They obviously had a head start on him. But right now those guys have continued to climb, and it’s not so much what Matt is or is not doing, it’s the fact these other guys are coming in every day and pushing it forward, and so I think the challenge for Matt would be to get going a little bit and try to pass him. But right now the encouraging thing is we have healthy competition in that room. I don’t know if we could have said that back in March. That’s encouraging in and of itself that we’re talking about guys that aren’t seeing the field. I think that’s good news, right?

Matt Nelson was ahead of Lattimore at Northwestern. They both played in the rotation. Not sure much has changed there other than who starts.

I recall this statement from brian. But h'es better at not saying something then calling a game, right now. He says "But right now those guys have continued to climb, and it’s not so much what Matt is or is not doing, it’s the fact these other guys are coming in every day and pushing it forward, and so I think the challenge for Matt would be to get going a little bit and try to pass him." I interpret this double-speak as he's good enough, but they started in front of him. Okay, but we're now at game 8 of what looks to be will be an average season, at best. If he's talented enough and was only behind the other guys because of when he arrive on campus, why haven't we seen him yet? If he hasn't picked up this offense in almost 3 months, why is he on the team?

Can the defense hold Minnesota to less than 14 points? Because ain't no way Iowa is scoring more than 14 points. I freaking hate the Ferentz's and how they are killing this offense.

I take it as those guys started ahead of him and remain ahead of him.

Um, yeah. That is evident by who has played. You know, Easley has dropped a lot of passes lately. Five, think in the last 2 games. So again, why is MQ on the team if he isn't good enough to get a look over a guy that's having problems catching the ball, right now?

Some of those drops are on Stanley. He’s putting the ball behind receivers and over the wrong shoulder.

Not all of them, but if he was more accurate there would be fewer drops.

MVB hasn't looked particularly good either- he's obviously not fully recovered from his injury. The way he was running after catching that long one, I thought he must have pulled something / re-injured himself.

Don’t have an answer for you. We’re not allowed at practice. I’ve never seen the kid play. I’m passing along what the OC said.

Gervase. Benched earlier in the year because he was so bad, but starting again now because of injury. Put Geno Stone on the field and let him play. Who cares if he makes a mistake. Gervase will for sure. The upside and athletic ability of Stone is far greater than Gervase. Put him in and let him get experience, this season is shot anyway.

Some good questions.

I’m guessing the answer would be that he is behind in practice grading.

But some guys are gamers and others are practicers. When practice guys make the same mistakes over and over again, like dropped balls, then why not put the next guy in and see if he’s a gamer?

All I know is, if J. Jackson continues to not even frickin' try to catch a punt in the air, put in Max Cooper there...I don;t care just put in ANYBODY ELSE in there that will at least make an effort!
So much of our struggles this season stem from piss-poor field position, and our punt receive team is a big reason why we start so deep in our own territory so often. CATCH THE DAMN BALL PLEASE!

That defensive lineup looks so strong! The goofers will have a hard time moving the ball against them.

I agree! They will have as hard a time as the last 7 opponents have had moving the ball. They will have as hard a time moving the ball as Iowa will have moving the ball. It will be another thrilling game!
