Demise of HS Football - When Will this Impact P5?

I have twin boys just starting 7th grade football this year. Their 7th grade class has 62 players. 62!! That's not entire Junior High, 8th grade has their own. I'm sure there will be a lot of attrition after 8th grade but I was floored when they said there were 62. Playing time will be minimal. Luckily, we also have a club team they are playing on that they did last year as well, but that is only for a few games.

Most of the articles I've read point to a sort of "gentrifying" of sports where the tough ones with serious risks will be filled with kids from hard neighborhoods and situations. The other sports will be filled with kids from middle class or better families with money to spend.

But as far as impacting the Power 5, the kids who enter school every spring are more ready than they were in generations past. Just this weekend a handful of true freshmen started at quarterback for some big schools and that would've been unheard of in generations past.

Football is a great sport. I hope it doesn't go away, ever. I'll bite my lip on commentary on other "sports".
