All I can say is that it finally looks like Iowa finally got those tight-azzed boosters to open up their checkbooks for some yaht rides on the res & some hoes. FINALLY!!

If Meyer bumped up to four and Fran found another strong 3, that would probably be borderline.

If Meyer stayed at a three and Fran found that same strong three you mention it would of course be the exact same class with the exact same players. To think that the class will be better because Meyer gets bumped to a four (while all else remains the same) seems odd to me.

Somebody just got served.

Take into account that you need to improve your play to move up. Look at Woodbury, he was around Meyer's status until he elevated his play. Now he is a very solid 4 star. What I meant is that Meyer continued to develop to the point that he was performing at a comparable level to Woodbury and other comparable players. This is extremely possible, because big men often see large jumps in their game when they mature.

So the difference between the third and fourth star is not just symbolic, but also has to do with player development.

Look at it this way. Olaseni is a legit 3, because he has some significant areas of growth that need to happen. Woodbury is a legit 4, because he has developed an all around game that is comparable to the top guys at his position.

So, while it might be the same person, it is not the same player.

Marrero was in Iowa City last Summer and the staff must have left an impression on him and have stayed in contact.
DeJuan is a really good defender, who guarded a lot of Centers in AAU and held his own, a physical defender. His shooting is not great, but he gets to the rim, this would be another great addition if Iowa can get this kid on campus.

Ummm.... No. not for about century or so, let alone no one can write in the English language.

It really doesn't matter.... it's about communication, understanding, being heard and having voice.

I agree and sometimes sigh when the spoken and written word is completely mangled and mashed, cooked and spit out to be cool and "in" on the latest cutting edge slang or street talk.

The important thing is that the Iowa BB coaches can effectively communicate with recruits and vice versa.

The quality of life is the quality of your communication.

The unintentional comedy of this post is off the charts!!!

Hawkihoops:

Once more:

I have NO CROW to eat. My point from before Fran was offered was that successful coaches were successful in recruiting from the start.

I put the 2012 recruiting class as the drop dead class. If Fran was not able to bring in a class that was close to the top half of the conference, it would take a turn around of which there is no example in recent history.

If you look back at my posts, they are extremely consistent on this matter. The only people who have a problem with it are those who don't believe Fran can accomplish this. Those people use the patience argument.

However, there is NO empirical evidence to support their position and 10 years of evidence to support my position.

As of right now, Fran has a top half of the conference class assembled. Adding Woodbury and another athletic player to run the wing would help keep this class in the top half of the conference.

With the top schools not having filled their scholarships yet, Iowa has to have Woodbury, Macon or Marrero, or a combination of the three to make this a top half class. I believe there are four teams ranked inside the Top 10 for the 2012 overall recruiting rankings from the BIG as it stands today: Indiana, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan St...Iowa would have to sign better classes than Illinois and Wisconsin to be in the top half and past history hasn't been kind in that respect. If Iowa lands only Woodbury, there is a legitimate chance that they finish in the top half and if they sign either Marrero or Macon to go with him, then they are in the top half for sure with a shot to land in the 5th spot in the BIG overall.

Just saw a tweet where he told Patrick Ingram he's going to talk to coach Dillard later this week. They've been talking on twitter quite a bit lately. Rivals has us as low, but it's nice to see he's still going to talk to us. Gotta be a small chance at least.

Here is a guy who has waited to long in the recruiting process. He did have some nice offers, but, most of them have dried up. He's a tweener whose offense is limited. He should have pounced on some of the good offers he had instead of playing out the process this long. I understand the school of thought that says 'take your time, it is an important decision'. But, that isn't applicable everytime, for everyone. Sometimes you need to make your decision a little quicker than you'd like.

Here is a situation where someone telling Marrero to take his time may work out well for Iowa. His offense is limited, but he is a SF with solid ball handling and toughness and not just a good defender, but a physical defender. He is also ranked in the Top 150 and if Iowa can get a gift like this due to him waiting, that is one of those breaks Iowa has needed.

Iowa will rank higher than Illinois by sheer numbers......Illinois will offer probably only 1 scholarship for 2012.

Absolutely, there is nothing wrong with a recruit kinda' falling in your lap. Hell, if Illinois doesn't pull its offer to Oglesby, he may not have become a Hawk. But, it doesn't matter......as long as the talent arrives on campus.
I've read a few things about this kid as he was at one time being recruited by a few Big 10 teams.

Agreed. I doubt Macon comes to Iowa, but adding two well rated players would do this class nicely. Indiana will easily have the best class overall, Illinois and OSU have yet to get anyone on board though.

As Auggie pointed out above, Illinois may not be able to sign but one player. I didn't realize that Illinois added two guys so late in May, pretty uncommon for them.
Ohio State has a numbers problem right now, when they signed Amir Williams, it took one from the 2012 class and I don't know how many they actually had open.
By default, Iowa may actually slide in the top half because of sheer numbers that they have coming in. If Woodbury is a Hawk, then it is a no-brainer they will be. What stinks is that if Woodbury is a Hawk, those other four schools still may rank ahead of them. Iowa is going to add one or two more players, if they don't it would surprise me, even if Woodbury isn't one of them.
Macon is interesting because of the OSU scholarship situation, I think he wants to go to OSU, but they may not have anything available, if the NBA lockout continues then Sullinger won't go anywhere and a lot of people were surprised he came back in the first place.
The thing that is nice about Iowa having three kids committed to them today is they will not be scrambling in the Spring to fill spots, if they add anyone in the Spring, it will be a luxuary, not a necessity.

the chances for Macon are better than people think,, he actually wants to visit and that is a good thing as the only other visit he has scheduled is Maryland
