Davidson has played 2 Power 5 conference teams all year....

...and lost by double-digits to both of them while giving up an average of 87 PPG.

I really think that as long as we play our game and don't have one of those horrendous shooting nights, we should be okay in this game.

The whole Power 5 conference thing isn't as relevant as Davidson plays in the A-10. And in hoops, there are the Power 6 conferences (B1G, B12, SEC, PAC-12, ACC, Big East).
The A-10 is right behind the PAC-12, and Davidson played 17 games against Top 150 RPI teams (Iowa played 23). Sagarin has Iowa as 24 and Davidson as 30. Iowa is 24 in Pomeroy rankings, Davidson is 32. Game is close on paper, no surprise if either team wins.
Davidson has played lots of big-name teams and their coach has been around for a long time and been in the NCAA tournament plenty of times. Iowa will have to play well to win.

Davidson will be bombing 3's the entire game. As long as Iowa doesn't try to match them, they will be fine.

With their tallest player at 6'4" Hawks should pound them at the rim.

I'm sorry, but I don't much give a rip about "RPI Top XXX" wins when it comes to the mid-majors. Those guys have been playing that system for years. Davidson's supposed Top 100 RPI wins are as follows:

Dayton
VCU
Richmond
LaSalle (2)
George Washington (2)
UMass
Rhode Island

Of those 9 wins, only two, Dayton and VCU, are NCAA Tourney teams.

Iowa's Top 100 RPI wins are as follows:

North Carolina
Ohio State (2)
Maryland
North Dakota State
Michigan
Minnesota
Illinois
Indiana

Of those 9 wins, 6 came against NCAA tourney teams.

The level of competition isn't even close.

Davidson raining 3s vs. 7'1" Woodbury trying to make a lay up.... That mismatch goes to Davidson.

THIS!!!

Davidson can beat us, obviously. Yet they haven't played the caliber of schedule that we have, and the B1G is a little down this year from previous years. If Davidson played Iowa's schedule, they wouldn't be in the tourney. If Iowa played Davidson's schedule, they would be a 5 seed.

If Iowa takes care of the ball and gets the ball inside they should do just fine. However if Davidson gets hot and throws in a ton of 3s they can make our lives miserable... I'd like to think they aren't much better then Indiana and we didn't have much problem taking care of them on the road. It sounds like they are a lot like them size and style wise. Yet we gotta still do what we do. If we turn it over a bunch play sloppy and take bad shots we can lose just as easily....

I don't think I've ever heard of a game where the starting 5 averages a 5 inch difference in hight. That's a crazy number.

We SHOULD be able to wins this game.

It's just that this team is capable of good and bad in so many ways.

I'm not disagreeing that Iowa's schedule hasn't been superior to Davidson's. It has. All I'm saying is that this isn't like playing the Sun Belt conference winner. Davidson's program is used to being in the NCAA tournament, they aren't going to be awed by the moment or by playing a team from the B1G.

If Iowa can just not turn it over and make a few shots, Hawks should be in good shape with the lack of height from Davidson.

Seeing
-Ute slash to the middle of the zone at the free throw line, turn and shoot over 6'4" guys.
-AW taking lob dunks over 6'4" guys.
-taller guards, wings having easier access to Woody/Gabe/White/Ute inside.

I'll take it.

This Davidson team is not that Northwestern State team that beat us a couple of years ago. Holy crap, that was 9 years ago. Time flies when you hire a crappy coach!

Both were on their home court as well.

I expect to see a ton and a ton and a ton of this if they try to zone us, which is about all they can do with the height advantage

According to Sagarin, Iowa is ranked #24 and Davidson is ranked #30. Iowa has the 25th toughest schedule, Davidson is 99th.

If both teams bring their "A" game, I predict a close, exciting game.

All of the "at large" teams in the NCAA tourney are excellent teams. Play your best, and you have a chance to advance. Play average or below average, and you lose. It's that simple.

Win or lose against Davidson, it's been a great season for the Hawkeyes
