About UCLA

If you can, you should watch the UCLA - Nebraska game. Not just the highlights. They came out agressive. Throwing more than passing running and moved down the field to score the first 3 posessessions. With out misques it could easily have been 21-0 very early in that game.

The second half they ran the ball more. Pentalties cost them.

They have a good QB, tight end and receivers. They run a nice toss sweep. One RB is speed and the other seems bigger. They're fun to watch. They reminded me of Indiana believe it or not.

The thing is when you watch a team, they may look good or bad and none of that matters until they're on the field against Iowa...then we see what's what.

We are playing UCLA at the worst time. They have found an identity and went into Lincoln and beat a confident Nebraska team. Really kicked their ass.

UCLA is legit up front on D. Our OL better eat their protein for breakfast next weekend. The offense has some playmakers.

Traveling to the West Coast is a disadvantage for sure, but I suspect there will be a lot of Black and Gold in the Rose Bowl.

nebraska got a false sense of accomplishment and abilities against OSU. They incorrectly interpreted their performance as a moral victory, but OSU played the worst game I've seen them play in the Urbs/Day era. And they still beat them.

That team (nebraska) is absolute red hot garbage. I watched every play of the UCLA game this past weekend (Iwatch all of their games because seeing the meltdowns is theraputic for me) and it would've been a total blowout except for 3 unsportsmanlikes on UCLA that all led to scores instead of stops.

UCLA is better than nebraska, but like literally everyone else the huskers made them look better than they are.

Yeah, this game is likely to be tougher than most Iowa fans realize. I don't know that I've ever seen a team improve as much from Week 1 until this point in the season. UCLA's first game vs Hawaii was like watching a comedy show. Their WRs were repeatedly going the wrong way, the QB was making bizarre throws under pressure, endless Unsportsmanlike and Personal Foul penalties -- not sure I'd ever seen a worse P5 team.
Then saw the 1st Quarter of the Nebraska game and was, like, WOW, what a difference. (Other than the stupid unsportsmanlike penalty which gave the Huskers 7 pts).
Their defense reminds me a little of Sparty, in that they've got some studs on their DLine, and it'll be a challenge to move some of those guys around. Iowa's D will also need to put on their big boy pants.
The Bruins as a team will be pumped up and full of confidence for this night game.
I think Iowa can outcoach this team, tho, and I wanna see that happen Friday night.
My son and his wife (HUGE Hawk fans and UI alum) will be driving down from the Bay Area for the game, and will combine it with a visit at my in-laws in Huntington Beach.

UCLA is trending up. Neb being garbage or not UCLA went on the road and put it to them. I don't think it was as close as the scoreboard said. We'll have to earn it if we are to beat them. I'm not as confident that we can push them around like we just did Wisky.

But that said I didn't think we'd do that to Wisky either... So what do I know?

The torches and pitchforks are certainly out here in Nebraska. Riaolla is regressing. He isn't just making freshmen mistakes, he just isn't making improvements from week to week. And the kid is ridiculously talented. Some want the OC fired.

Nebbie could absolutely lose out. at USC and Iowa and home to Wisky. I think they get at least one of those games, become bowl eligible and everyone will accept the season as improvement and a step forward. But, if Rhule doesn't win one of these last three games? There would need to be some coaching changes (but probably not at the top)

Statistically UCLA's rush defense looks decent at 99 yards per game #11. Rushing TD's allowed not so great at 13. (Iowa allowed 2) (Nebraska ran fairly well on them in the second half. Not so well in the first half.)

Scoring defense is subpar at #92
Defensive 3rd down conversion rate is .546, good enough for dead last #133

Defensive redzone touchdowns allowed is 24 out of 33 attempts. ( For contrast, Iowa's defensive redzone touchdowns allowed is 13 out of 19 attempts. Similar percentage but a lot less tries allowed)

Very inconsistent defensive stats.

UCLA had a super difficult schedule, in retrospect, prior to their recent wins. This included Indiana, LSU, Oregon, PSU, and Minny.

With a first year coach and not much time to prepare, I think they're playing pretty well. If Foster and Bienemy can get recruits to come there, look out.

I'll be there with my wife and two friends. Go hawks!

History. They used to play in the coluseum - I had no idea. Must suck not to have stadium on campus.

I was at that game in 1981, what a great time

UCLA has tried to get a stadium on campus at least twice, but the rich dudes in Bel Air (just to the north of campus) squashed it. The campus is also not spread out and is in an urban area (although it is an amazing campus, IMHO).
