David Kenney Decommits

Yes, yes you are. Kurt's first three classes were last, second to last and 6th in BT recruiting rankings and you know the success they had on the field 02 through 04.

How is he wrong he stated nothing about the 2002 team. That team was full of "lucky no-namers". by that I mean guys that were not highly recruited that turned out to be great players.

Banks
Clark
Sanders
Russell
etc. etc.

That's not what he was saying.

You're right. Guess what? That was an anomaly. Kirk squeezed every little bit of talent from those guys and they stepped up big time. Since then Kirk hasn't been able to achieve the same kind of success with lesser talent. If he could have, the 05-07 downswing wouldn't have happened and the current downswing wouldn't be happening either.

Like. And the heralded members of the 2005 class who were hyped up by the Postman from Palatine didn't figure much into the 2008-2009 run.

Moeaki, huge part of 09 success
Dace on the line was big until he got hurt
Angerer
Ebuanks
Calloway

Yeah, the 2005 class didn't play much of a roll on that team.

I wouldn't include '05 as a "downswing" season. Kurt's '04 team was about three plays from being 7-5 just as the '05 team was about three plays from being 10-2.

Same thing in '09-'10. The 2009 team was a few plays from 7-5 and the 2010 team was a few plays away from 10-2. So is 2010 less disappointing or not the start of the downswin we are now seeing? You can say that about any team Iowa has ever had because that is the way they play. A few games will be decided bya play or two.

I was speaking specifically about all of the hyped kids from Chicagoland where the Postman from Palatine always overrates kids and gives Iowa and Illinois fans false hope. Moeaki was great in 2009. Dace would have been great but for injury. The rest of those guys weren't as heralded by the Postman because they weren't from Chicagoland.

Can't really blame the kid. Iowa feels fairly sketchy right now, and his pappy is an assistant @ IU.

I can't blame the kid for wanting to be near his dad, but I don't think Iowa "feels fairly sketchy." Iowa has a very, very young team. Recruiting has improved after 08,09. As the talent level improves along with experience, I actually feel better about the program than I did the last two years.

Indiana looks great on offense...

I think Iowa will be fine. I like McMinn at DE, and I think Ott will have the same time of skill package and will be a good one. Also, I think Ekakite may stay outside, and you put Johnson and Cooper in the middle. I think the DL would be ok. I liked the kids athleticism and the big reason he committed to Iowa was they looked past his height that some were having issues with. If he commits to IU to play with his dad that's great. If he commits to nebby sicne they just offered I will be ******. That means he committed to Iowa to have a spot but waited to get a better offer. I don't think tha tis the case, but you never know.

I hope we kill Indiana.

This. If he was so hell bent on playing for his dad, he would have never committed or decommitted a long time ago.

By all accounts, playing for coach Kaz would be a substantial punishment if that were to happen.

His dad wasn't hired until after he committed to Iowa. I was surprised it took this long for him to decommit. I did not like that for several months he said he was still committed strongly to Iowa. His "thinking about it" didn't come until Iowa lost a few and looked pretty bad. Not saying that's the reason, but he was strongly committed til that point.

Ferentz is fantastic at identifying talent, but finding that many walkons, and 2 stars that turned out to be all americans all at the same time is the equivalent of winning the lottery. A couple of those guys, Clark for sure, were Fry recruits too.

Yeah, the 2005 class didn't play much of a roll on that team.

The 05 was a huge bust. Yes those few turned out good but do we need to list the 20 or so guys who did not work out? If every class had only 5 or 6 guys who worked out we wouldn't even be able to field a team.

06 and 07 were the classes that made that Orange bowl run happen.

Depends what you consider a bust. The whole class wasn't 4 and 5*, there were quite a few and yes there were busts. But do you consider 2 and 3* guys busts if they don't make it? I'm not saying the '05 class didn't meet expectations or wasn't mostly a bust but they contributed guys to good teams that played big rolls on those teams.

This. Wants to play for Dad at IU. Already actively working to get other ranked players to de-commit and come to Bloomington.

Case closed. Next?

Also, didn't he commit while Iowa was in the middle of some coaching changes? IDK and am too lazy to look it up. Perhaps he was hoping that by committing early to Iowa he could help Pops land a job.

He committed in April. Iowa was long done with coaching changes at that point.

You guys are missing the point: Kenney's decommit is Vandenberg's fault. Well, maybe kind of coach Davis' fault, too. Well, maybe Kirk's fault, since he makes too much money. Or, it could be O'Keefe's fault. I personally think he read a bunch of Scorpio's posts and decided to stay away from Iowa.
