Darrian Miller- Spill It!!

Very odd situation. I have a feeling we may never actually know what went down either. But, as long as we get someone as good or better, it won't matter. I was really excited about him admittedly.

On the Hawkeyereport and Hawkeyeinsder pay sections, there are breaking news articles about Darrian Miller. Apparently something big, but I don't pay, so I can't read it. Anyone know what it says?

Edit: Apparently the rumor relates to a pulled scholarship offer.

Not sure what the breaking news is, but someone had mentioned on the iowa rivals free board that they had facebooked the kid about coming to Iowa, and his response was "can't anymore" not sure what that means or if it's real but it doesn't sound good. Take it for what it's worth.

Hopefully that means we had a couple of commitments we haven't heard about yet.

Here's to hoping........ But he has already been suspended once this season which may indicate behavior issues, which is nothing but speculation on my part.

It's not good to speculate in that way.

The prevailing theory seems to be that Miller's scholarship offer was pulled due to a "silent commit" from Rodney Coe, one of our other key RB targets. The reason for the silent commit is that Coe wants to announce at the USArmy All Star game. This is common for recruits to this game, and is pretty good pub for IOWA.

Whether that's the case or not, it has to be dissapointing for Darrian Miller. I'd hate to think something happened on his visit that soured us on him. Seems like a good kid from what I've read.

But if it is Coe, when was the last time IOWA had the luxury of saying "no thanks" to a big recruit because we got someone better? Interesting.

It looks like the thread on here from earlier is gone now, but this is pretty much it. Pure SPECULATION that Coe is a silent verbal therefore Iowa pulling the offer to Miller.

This whole thing is a prime example of why IMO following recruiting is worthless.

All kinds of people have thier panties in a bunch of rumors regarding "silent commits" from kids who have about a 50-50 shot of cracking the starting lineup even if they do commit.

Not to throw another 'theory' out there but I have heard something in the last few days that leads me to believe that IF and that is a big IF Miller's scholly was pulled it may be because the staff has come by info in the last week that makes their decision on the number of RB recruits to take (already have Gordon) in this class based on who they believe will be on the roster next year. So it may be Coe is a silent commit but they may also have come by info that they believe allows them to only take one RB in this class.

Add to that the fact that it is still possible that Hitchens remains at RB and you may get the result of a pulled schollie offer to Miller. Plus, it may be that even with that speculation of next year's roster they are content with having an all or nothing situation with Coe. They still take Coe if he wants to come because of his skill-set but if they don't get him they are content with what they have for next year.

And again we need to remember his offer has been out there for months and he's had ample opportunity to commit. Sucks for him if he was still seriously interested in us but prom night was approaching and he had to decide which date he wanted to go on.

Not trying to be "that guy" but it crossed my mind. Could it be for Brandon Wegher? I think the silent commitments and stuff are more likely, but just throwing it out there.

Iowa goes about recruiting in a very methodical, organized manner. They do as good a job as anyone in refilling their needs. I have a lot of confidence in our recruiting system. Maybe we don't get the top star players but I really feel we know what we are after.

There could be a number of explanations for this but I'm confident we have a plan for what we are doing. The reason surely has been discussed on here.

I think they would take an athlete of Miller's caliber regardless of other commits etc. If you can get Hitchens back to S by adding a RB like Miller you do it. Coe isists on being a tailback but so did Rogers. Who the hell on this staff is going to rely on Wegher (if he ever makes it back).

I am almost POSITIVE it has nothing to do with numbers at RB. Which is too bad, because as excited as I am about Gordon, I think Miller is a much more "natural" RB. Adding an athlete like Miller gives the coaching staff added flexibilty that I'm sure they wouldn't just pass on without extensive consideration.

iowahawkeyes89, among others, are suggesting from the benefit of their "premium" info that Iowa's split with Miller has more to do with "character" issues.

Thus, my thinking aloud may prove very well to be way off.

A man can dare to dream though ....

HawkeyeInsider now mentions "shortcoming" in its article tease. Vague, yes...but there must be more to it than the infamous "silent commit"...do those even exist? Why wouldn't the scorned player say "F it" and blow the cover off of it if his scholly was pulled because someone else is a "silent commit"?

I highly doubt that if there were a "silent commit", that the coaches would divulge that fact, nor who that player may be. For all we know, it could be Wegher. We don't know, and I don't think that's likely, even though if the rumor my dad told me is true, it would certainly explain taking a 1-year absence (But I'm extremely skeptical about its validity. It's pretty extreme.). But I highly doubt that Miller, or any other scorned recruit, would have any information to blow the cover off of.
