Dankin Gone

To follow LeVar Woods?
I probably would in his situation. Who knows who Iowa will hire? Love the Hawks but it could be a situation where they hire some dork who doesn’t know his head from his ass. Coaches have unlimited eligibility and can be retained or died at will. Players don’t have that luxury, they’re on a ticking clock and you gotta get while the gettin’s good.

One rumor of a possible replacement is Desmond King. I guess he's been around the program quite a bit in the recent past.

Desmond would be an intriguing pick. Seems like he would be under qualified for a coordinator position. Wonder what he would be like as a recruiter. I know he loves Iowa and has the good ties to Michigan plus the NFL experience is a plus. Young guy with new energy could be valuable. I still think it may be Norvell

There is zero chance Kirk is hiring Desmond King as ST coordinator for next season. If King is interested in launching a coaching career and starting it at Iowa, it'd be as some type of low level administrative assistant or even volunteer basis. Basically starting at the bottom rung.

Yea, I didn't really know how much to put into that as there is so much more than only running back kicks and punts.

He wasn’t an elite punter anyway. I wouldn’t even put him in the category of a “good” punter this year. He was serviceable. It will not be difficult to replace his production.

Keep in mind these Australian punters do not get the luxury of getting NIL $$. There is some sort of rule against it. I remember Tory Taylor being in the same situation a few years ago. So Dakin has to do all he can to get to the NFL to start making money. He probably figures following Woods gives him his best opportunity.

won’t need a punter next season anyway
Hell that's why he's leaving.... Ha. Like everyone else I assume he's following Woods. I'm good with it he's an Aussie and the only reason he's here is because of Woods. What sucks for him is he's not able to get NIL so we can rule that out being a reason. Our laws screw those guys go figure

Yes, the real key is finding a long snapper that doesn't hike the ball over the punter's head.

His 3 punts in this game avged 49 a pop. He wasn't Tory obviously but with 2 more yrs to play he could still end up being really good. Tory was just a machine early on he was ridiculous. His ability to coffin corner kicks inside the 10,5 yard line was special. Lots of dudes can boom it 60 yards. Flipping the field is the ultimate goal

Yeah, he seemed to be out of sync a good part of this season compared to his Fr year, but he's got the talent and ability. I don't know that he'll be that easy to replace...unfortunate that Iowa will probably need to use some of it's NIL money to do so.
It always surprises me when players leave a school simply because their position coach or head coach departs. I mean, when it comes to head coaches, after the recruitment phase most players have minimal contact with them anyway. I understand relationships are important to young people, but with a program with the stability of Iowa things are not gonna change that much with a position coaching change.

Well the fact he's from Australia ratchets that up a few notches I would think. He was only a Hawkeye because of Woods. If ever this is the reason why he's leaving I totally get it.
