Daniel Murray status for this weekend

I hope we don't see Murray...In my head...Meyer's delivery and kick looked better than all of them...Murray AND Moss kick such low line drives...it's always in danger of getting blocked...and do you remember Murray's one attempt from like 47 was it? when it landed on oh...idk...the 20? He got himself so pysched he shanked it that badly...he has made ONE kick...and I will always appreciate that...but he is NOT a good kicker...give me Meyer

I agree. I will take Meyer. He might go through some lumps this year, but he is likely going to be the guy for the next 3 years anyway. I am not sold on Mossbrucker and it clearly seems like neither is Kirk. Meyer has a very fluid kicking style, he is going to have a very good Hawkeye career. I watched him a couple times in high school, the kid has a huge leg, multiple 50+ yarders in high school is really saying something. If it is going to be Murray, that's fine I understand, but pick one and stick with him.

KF's wording was strange...unless I read it wrong, but didn't he say (about Murray) "he told me he was 100%"? What a player says and what is real are sometimes two different things. I downplayed injuries when I played competitive sports.

so he can miss like he did against OSU '09 ... or hit like he did against PSU '08 ???

This is a wash for the team unless Murray has improved in the offseason

I think Murray gets too much crap from people on the message boards. Sure, he's no Nate Kaeding, but he has been a solid kicker for us. I will always appreciate him for that kick against PSU in '08. It's just too bad he couldn't make a couple against OSU last year.

I don't think people are unappreciative for what Murray has done for us (particularly the PSU kick). But, if Meyer is at least as accurate as Murray (which isn't stellar accuracy), then I say go with him. He's got a MUCH bigger leg, and his kicks just look better. Accuracy can be taught through experience. His fundamentals and the trajectory of his kicks look pretty good.

There are definitely some people on the message boards that think Murray sucks and that just constantly dog on him. I can't name names or anything, but I've definitely seen it. I agree with you, that if Meyer is better than Murray, he should be kicking. However, it is obvious that The Ferentz has thought Murray gave us the best chance in the past, and I'll trust Him to make the right decision again this year.

Interesting how there was "kicker adversity" two years ago going into this game at home as well- if I was a betting man, the captain goes to Murray again in a similar situation.

idk...Myer's kicks actually look good...unlike murray and Moss...he puts them high in the net...and his delivery is fluid...Moss has a hop step delay thing...and murray idk...I just feel like every time he's out there on PAT's it's going to be an adventure.

Murray was on the preseason Groza watch list. Somebody other than the Hawkeyenation felt he was worthy to be there. Murray deserves the spot if he is healthy. I am glad that Meyer got experience while he could, that way he actaully had some in-game kicks rather than just kickoffs. Murray no question is the guy we put out there this Saturday, and if was up to me, the rest of the year.

It's amusing that you targeted people about their basic football knowledge and then you make this post. Just because Murray was on some preseason watch list doesn't automatically push him into the job whenever he's back. Since the kicking game's inconsistencies have been well documented going back to spring... Murray will earn the job, or he will not- it's as simple as that.

That is not to say Murray has not done great things for Iowa football in the past, and nobody should diminish those contributions. I THINK Murray will win the job, and if he's "right" I would prefer a more experienced kicker down the stretch anyhow. But if Murray can't hack it and Meyer wins the job... there's no way the Captain inserts him just because he's a "Preseason Groza Watch List Candidate".
