Why would anyone need a high-performance computer that runs a browser-based OS? You can't game on it because no games are written for it.

looks like the chromebook pixel offers about the same as my macbook pro, but costs more.

I like the other chromebooks, and may still pick up the mid-priced samsung they have (wifey picked out the Mac - so it's hers) ... but I wouldn't pay apple prices for the Google one.
