@dandakich and revisionist history?

I am a Jimmy ***** man myself, even though he seems to be exclusively SEC, at least every time I catch him. Raftery is pure entertainment. I'm always disappointed when a team starts in a zone defense...

I guess Jimmy D's real last name is banned on the boards!

Some of you just can't move on can you. Seriously it is so comical.

New Mexico has been a pretty solid coaching gig for years and this was a perfect fit for Alford. You mentioned the conference being inferior you do realize that the Mountain West is now tied with the Big Ten #1 ranked RPI Conference in the Country.

You do realize that on the actual basketball court the big10 has like 5 or 6 teams that are better than anyone in the mwc.

Dakich has always had a attitude toward Iowa, perhaps it is because of Alford but I never heard him go on about Alford before. His personality is somewhat similar to Alford's. He is becoming a Ted Valentine style showboat with his on court demonstrations druing timeouts. What a Richard. He did play with Alford at Indiana......

A lot of the time I don't listen that much to the announcers especially if they are biased or idiots.....

:(

Or biased idiots...

I like Dakich as an announcer...he is not afraid to speak his mind, and he does know bb.
He is a sports-talk personality in Indy,so he likes to stir the pot which is those guys stock in trade.

Now, as for his comment about SA not being able to fire some long time guys at Iowa...would like to know who he is referring to...cannot imagine who that is...John Strief? Sounds like a distortion of facts.

NM is a good bb program...for many years,''The Pit'' was about the only arena besides UCLA's west of the mississippi that anyone had ever heard about. They have a bb tradition, best in the mountain region.
SA did not build it,but he has enhanced it. Dakich should let it go,tho. 99% of Iowa fans have moved on,and are happier with Fran than they ever were with SA,it seems.

Anybody who thinks that the MWC is on par with the Big Ten this year is smoking crack.

Same thing goes for people who think that Alford winning at New Mexico, but not at Iowa, is just "an Iowa problem". Apparently Dan Dakich doesn't grasp the fact that Alf has a much easier schedule to navigate every year in the MWC than he had in the Big Ten. Get back to me when Alford makes it out of the first or second round of a post-season tournament, including the NIT, at New Mexico.
And think how easy the Big conference was when Stevie Wonder had his gig. Imagine him competing in the conference now.

The league is exceptionally tough this year...but lets see how many teams make the FF before we declare this as way stronger than in the past.

I still think that the Horner,Bru,Haluska,Hansen,Henderson,DT team of 2006 was better than any Fran Iowa team so far. That team could have competed this year, probably contended for a title.

1. Yes it was.

2. No it couldn't.

Not with Alford as their couch. I gave him the benifit of the doubt for about 3 years too many. He lost us more games than any of the players we had under him.

Alford was not a good game coach at the beginning of his tenure at Iowa but by the end of it he was a very good coach.

Of course we are, but here's the real issue: what Dakich is saying just isn't true.

He said Iowa forced him to keep assistants on staff. Really? Barta held a gun to Alford's head and said "Don't you DARE fire your dad, Steve! Don't you do it! You better not!" And we're to believe that Neal, who followed Alford to the desert (and was, well, Alford's underthetableaccountant ifyagetwhatimsaying) was "forced" to be kept on staff?

Dakich isn't a smart man. He has good friends in high places. That's about it.

That said, I'd probably have a beer with him. But not Steve Alford - he'd leave me with the bill.

I dont think you know what getting trolled means...

Credit Neal for that......

Alford's use of timeouts was the worst I have ever seen. It changed when Neal came on board. I do remember being up 14 at Illinois, they started a comeback and Alford called a timeout when we were four points behind......

A delusion that SHOULD have been proven to you after the NW State game.

Some folks just don't get it, I guess...

lol. I know that's how sports gets covered, but a single game doesn't really tell you much at all.

Some folks just don't get it, I guess.

The MWC plays the RPI game. Always have.

Honest question - how would the top 5 teams in the MWC fair in the B1G? How about the bottom 5?

How about the Top 8 from each conference with the non-conference games vs. Top 8 teams from the "major" basketball conferences and games vs. top teams of other conferences:

Mountain West
New Mexico: v.UConn -W . . . @Cinncy -W . . . @St.Louis -L . . . USC -L
Colorado St: @Colorado -L . . . @Wash -L
UNLV: Oregon -L . . . Iowa St -W . . . @Cal -L . . . UNI -W . . . @N.Car -L
Boise St: @Mich St -L . . . @Creighton -W . . . LSU -W
SD ST: v.Syracuse -L . . . v.UCLA -W . . . v.Arizona -L . . . @USC -W
Air Force: @Colorado -L . . . Wichita St -L . . . v.Florida -L
Wyoming: Colorado -W
Fresno St: Colorado -L . . . @UCLA -L @Texas -L

Big Ten
Indiana: v.G'town -W . . . UNC -W . . . v.Butler -L
Michigan: v.Pitt -W . . . v.K-ST - W . . . NCST -W . . . Arkansas -W . . . W.Virg -W
Ohio St: @Duke -L . . . Kansas -L . . . v.Wash -W
Mich St: v.UConn -L . . . v.Kansas -W . . . Boise -W . . . @MiaFL -L
Wisconsin: @Florida -L . . . v.Creighton -L . . . v.Arkansas -W . . . Virginia -L . . . CAL -W . . . Marquette -L
Illinois: v.Butler -W . . . @Gonzaga -W . . . v.Mizzou -L . . . GaTech -W . . . v.USC -W
Minnesota: v.Duke -L . . . v.Memphis -W . . . @FLST -W . . . @USC -W
Iowa: v.Wichita St -L . . . Iowa St -W . . . v.UNI -W

non-conference record vs. Top 8 teams in other bb conferences
MWC 9-15
B1G 20-12

home:
MWC 4-5
B1G 7-2

away:
MWC 3-8
B1G 3-4

neutral:
MWC 2-2
B1G 10-6

vs. ACC
MWC 0-2
B1G 4-4

vs. PAC12
MWC 3-8
B1G 4-0

I would posit that if the Mountain West cannot compete against an average PAC12, then it is not going to compete against a very sturdy 1 thru 8 teams in the B1G.

I'd put the B1G's #8 team ahead of the #4 MWC team. And Colorado State's non-conference record is not impressive while UNLV demonstrated that can't win on the road against 4 through 8 in the PAC12.
