Absolutely a must-read. Thompson actually stopped in the DI newsroom on a visit to meet with Gable, and a handful of us on the sports staff got to just sit and shoot the **** with him. The stuff he told us about this story was incredible, and it's even better in print.

I was lucky enough to grow up with a dad that was very familiar with Iowa wrestling and I remember him telling me stories about Gable. It wasn't until I was a bit older that I learned what happened to his sister and everything finally fell into place. I think people would be surprised at how often professional athletes spawn from tragedy.

For the record I think that the IOC getting rid of wrestling is just about the dumbest gdamn idea I've ever heard, and it must be reversed.

The line where Thompson asked when Gable's parents started collecting stories and what not and Gable said "before I died.....I mean, before my sister died," damn near made my heart stop for a second. Incredibly powerful moment.

I think we as Iowa fans should start crowdfunding and produce a biopic on Gable...

Of course...I could see where we as Iowa fans might turn it into a movie that's part Rambo/part Captain America/and part Rocky...but would it be that far from the truth?

I kid, but it's a must read...the man is simply amazing.
