Dale Jones Sidelined With Wrist Injury

Hawkeye senior sustained injury in Seton Hall game

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa senior forward Dale Jones suffered a fracture in his right wrist in Thursday’sgame against Seton Hall and is expected to miss approximately 8-9 weeks. The announcement came Sunday from Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery.

After missing the first two games this season, Jones sustained the injury minutes after making his season debut against Seton Hall.

“All of us feel for Dale, as this is another unfortunate setback in his collegiate career,” said McCaffery. “Dale has demonstrated a tremendous amount of dedication and perseverance returning from two previous season-ending knee injuries. Dale has the support of his teammates and coaches, and we are certain he will have an impact on this team later this season.”

Jones, who transferred to Iowa in 2015 after three years at Tyler Junior College in Texas, has played limited minutes in only seven games during his Hawkeye career. Jones suffered a season-ending knee injury in practice on Dec. 1, 2015, after competing in Iowa’s first six games. The native of Waterloo, Iowa, suffered his first knee injury in 2014.

Well sob. Good thing is he can continue to workout the legs and get the knee 100%. Not sure if we can expect much from him this season when he returns. I do think we could use his 3pt shooting next year, barring further injury or transfer/moving on...

Are you allowed to get another medical redshirt? Highly doubt he would even want to, but is it allowed?

Some dudes get hurt sneezing... It's crazy the bad luck this guy has had. Feel for him but Fran has to wish he could have that scholly available for his kid and just move on..

They need to open up 2 more scholarships for his son to get one.

I thought it was Dale receiving his 6th yr next season that is keeping Iowa from having one for him? I could be wrong that's how I thought I heard that awhile back. He's already been granted that for what happened to him last yr right?

But seriously I feel bad for him. That said, in life you get dealt with a hand of cards in every situation. It isn't your last hand. You keep playing and making the best of each. Dale seems like a good guy and he's at the right school. He'll make the best of what he has and do quite well.

poor guy, he's had a rough career as far as injuries go. If he's motivated enough to get back and play after all these injuries he should have no problem with his career with his dedication.

why does Fran's kid need a scholarship? Doesn't that kid's dad make enough money?

Lol, this has already been discussed more than once. I make a tenth of what Fran makes and have put one child through college and have another one that is sophmore in college. Bills for Fran may be little tight at only two million a year so we need to cut him some slack. ;) That's sarcasm and I totally agree with you as do many others on here, but there are are a few that see things differently. All that really matters is how Fran looks at things. I have a good hunch how he looks at this. He is a respectable and reasonable person. I would be shocked if it turns out any other way.

The thing about rich people is this. They more so than anyone would rather get stuff for free. Remember all the stories about Alford when he was around? Now I'm not saying Fran is anywhere near him. But to say Fran would rather not pay for his kids college than do it is hardly a stretch.
And then there is this angle of it. The kid is his own person. If he's earned it then he's earned it. He wouldn't be taking a scholly from someone else that deserved it more. As far as what's 'fair' I don't think it'd be that to the kid to say yeah your dad has to pay for yours just because he can easily afford it... Now at the end of the day that may very well be how this plays out unless there's some defections. So we'll see.

Jones turns 23 in December. If he does come back and proves he can be a solid contributor, he may just decide to try European ball so he can make some money while he can.
