Dailey et. al.

Ignoring transfers and unbalanced classes make for a very Merry Christmas! Don't call Vin a Clone either

At least he was smart enough to bring in a Juco to help balance out the classes. Oh wait, that was a wasted scholarship.

People said Fleming wouldn't leave last year and no way Hutton would since he redshirted and was the lock down defender we needed

Kriener is from Iowa and bleeds Black & Gold. He'll have a chance to pass Uhl & Wagner, but that won't be determined until next season. He has the potential and is our biggest player in height & length. Why would he leave....? If he does leave, I would think it would be later in his career. He is said to be a hard worker. He'll make a good run at earning some PT.

Dailey has the chance to take a huge chunk of Jok's minutes next yesr,. Unless he is homesick, why leave??

Fleming wasn't going to see many minutes, and he knew it. Homesick was probably another factor as he took a big step down to go back home to play at Chattanooga. Andrew will get his playing time, good for him.

Hutton wasn't going to play and the writing was on the wall. Fran is very forward and honest to his players. I'm sure Brandon knew he had to move on to play... He is picking up steam at Indian Hills after a slow start and I believe an injury/illness. The Redshirt year gave him another year of free education and physical development. Best of luck to Brandon. .

Who do you think will leave then?

My guess...Jones...Williams...it will become more evident when the conference starts...and those without meaningful minutes will be identified. No more Deleware State bench clearing games, for the most part.

I see Dailey and Jok sharing some of the PG minutes that had gone to Williams. But who knows...would be great to see CW take a leap and surprise everyone.

JB is too good of a shooter and competitor to take minutes away from.

If Kriener has the personality to sit, develop and learn...he will be a good long term option.

When did Dailey jump Williams in the rotation?

Nobody has to leave. Jones may not even play(although I think he will recover and contribute to the team). However Jones' scholarship isn't guaranteed. That said, he can take his 6th year as instate tuition. With grad school he can go part-time and remain eligible. No scholarship would be cheaper at that rate. Connor will not take a scholly and will walk-on....

But most likely someone will leave. Jones will get his scholly. Connor can walk on. Maybe even redshirt, which so many people seem to love around here, and develop his game further.

However it will work out, it will. But I definitely do not see Kriener nor Dailey leaving.

Somebody will transfer out besides Jones, attrition is common in basketball today

Exactly, and it is why those "unbalanced" classes you are complaining about really don't matter. Since the recruiting class of '13 when Iowa signed just Pete, it has inked 3 in '14, 6 in '15, 5 in '16 and will sign 3 in '17.

You can get to "balanced classes" with attrition. You sign 5 or 6 kids and 2 or 3 are naturally going to leave due to not enough playing time to go around.

I think you make a good point. Just from a numbers POV, it's likely someone leaves. But there are good reasons for players to stay too. Looking at the frontcourt numbers, there are just too many 4-5s. Like it or not, believe it or not, it looks like just from a numbers/recruiting standpoint that Wagner and Baer have to be considered SFs. If you don't, then there is just no room for Kriener. Even with Wagner/Baer at SF, Kriener is in the 3-deeps. Maybe 4-deeps if Jones returned. At guard, it's almost as bad if Connor is playing. Moss, Bohannon are likely starters. Williams, Dailey, Ellingson, McCaffery all vying for the 2-deeps. BE might accept a spot role, but CW and Dailey are talented enough that they might not next year. It's yet to be determined who leaves, although Jones appears very likely. But even with his departure, one or 2 just aren't going to see the PT they expect and likely leave.

Agreed. We're not graduating any 4s or 5s and we're bringing in Garza and Nunge. Kriener can't get in the rotation without them here

It will sort out...a natural attrition...those who want to stay, agreeing to limited minutes, to support the team and get a degree are good team members to have on the bench. They also will stay to grow and have future "opportunities" arise...a content, hopeful, team member.

Those who think they have starting talent and NBA potential will leave...if they aren't getting the minutes...to pursue their dreams in another venue. This happens in droves in the current BB environment.

Those with a lot of minutes, starting or otherwise, will be the foundation of the team, with other talented and content players coming off the bench.

Good news is...such discussions were rare in Iowa BB the last decade...marginal players were the starters.

Injuries change everything of course...
