D-Line Loaded

Probably shouldn't count our chickens before they hatch, but the D-Line looks as though it will be deep and talented. Really like who we have and who we have coming in. This will allow the linebackers free-range ability, create QB pressure, and increase DB success.

As with the OL. Jenkins has quietly become a stud 4-star, never wavering in his commitment, we have the big 6-8 son-of-a-gun, and Miller and Endres in next year's class.

We can clamor for athletes and playmakers at the skill positions all we want (and rightfully so, sometimes), but the B1G, and the West in particular, is won in the trenches. Wisconsin has proven this time and again, and Nebraska shows what can happen when you try to build your team from back to front.

They will sure compliment 3 new LB's.

We’re going to killed across the middle with Jackson leaving and three inexperienced LBs, coupled with very, very rare blitzing. The super weak schedule will probably be the only saving grace.
I'm holding my breath that Bens little brother Hockaday and Mends can maybe step up. Basing that on absolutely nothing other than hope but Hockaday and Mends have been around awhile and who knows maybe it'll click for Mends. Physically he's a stud even though he's not the biggest guy but if he isn't going to get it all together by the time he's a rs senior he never will. I think Welch will be there pushing Hockaday and may even beat him out for MLB. With a stud Dline I think we'll be better then expected. But losing Jackson will hurt no if ands or buts about that...

You know, I remember the day when Morris, Kirksey, and Hitchens left for the NFL, we quickly inserted, umm, well I know there were three linebackers after that...I remember them chasing David Johnson from behind. They gave him plenty of room so as not to scare him.

Quinton Alston / Travis Perry / Reggie Spearman didn't quite measure up in 2014. That being said...I think we have recruited the position very well over the past few years...plus they are going after a few JUCO players. Welsh has played well when given the chance and Mends has been around the block a few times. That being said, there are some athletes waiting in the wings...B Wade / Jones / and a few others. I think we will be fine. We aren't putting freshmen in there.

Actually, we are missing the run stopper up the middle on the D Line. We need that anchor that's 315-320 at DT.

Nixon will be a pretty good stopper and since we don't run a 3-4 defense, we don't need the really huge guy in the middle.

The DL is going to have to do a better job creating pressure and stopping the run before the word "loaded" is associated with them. I believe they were 7th or 8th in the B1G in rush D and about the same for sacks. Yes I know the offense didn't help them much but they also didn't help themselves much by not getting off the field on 3rd down.

Rivals shows Jenkins as a 3* and 6-4...

Alston might be the worst MLB Iowa's had during KFs time. He was bad. That group wasn't vey good. David Johnson is still running away him in his dreams I bet.

Insert: Daviyon Nixon
Sounds like he's ready to plug and play too. Him and Lattimore should be a nice combo with Nelson rotating in. DE we are totally set with a nice 3 headed monster there too again. LB and secondary will be question marks though... (Jackson leaving will hurt the most)

I agree. Starting over at LB, but the talent level is better than it was with that crew with Alston. I know it was garbage time against Nebraska, but I was pretty impressed by the young LBs speed and how hard/fast they got downhill.

So, if we get beat up and have a poor season, you will be right. If we have a good season, it will be the result of a weak schedule. You will be right. OK. thanks

4-Star on 247, and high 3 by their composite. I know it's just semantics, but when a guy commits as early as he did, and never wavers, you usually don't see an adjustment by most sites because other teams won't bother offering.
