D-Line Loaded

Dean, what are U talking about. Of course that's "pretty" good. It's more about the mediocrity the past few years excepting 2015. It's about the bowl game punishments. It's about consistently having "were young" problems. It's about total trashments in the RB, against TN, the 2nd half of the Outback. It's about running smallish RBs into a D line with little help. It's about the short side of the field. It's about insanely long and time consuming drives against the D. It's about having obviously better Qbs sitting on the sideline. It's about lack of a pass rush or line penetration on long consuming drives. It's about a horrific punting game in one year coming out of nowhere. (you can't tell me someone on the team couldn't do better). It's about not seeing the blitz or handling it. It's about very mediocre receivers. It's about 66 yards in a game. It's about a QB getting pulverized for lack of protection and mobility and not changing things up. It's about 66 yards after totally pulverizing what would have been a playoff team had they not been pulverized. It's about 500 yards by a what turned out to be not such an offensive Juggernaut It's about having a practice squad RB being the last standing RB. It's about not anticipating the best RB in the nation and keeping a wounded player on the field where he was running.

None of those things are a big deal considered alone. Eliminate about 1/2 of them (probably even 1/3) and most fans would be quite content with the record..Considered as a whole, those factors are indicative of dysfunction at a high level.

Dysfunctional kind of like insulting everyone you come into disagreement with.

I didn't insult anyone, insults are your bag. Also your just a self admitted Ferentz apologist anyway.

You are calloused to your own words.

And you, yours. I get it you are a do as I say, not as I do guy. I find you calling posters idiots all the time, yet you lecture me for how I interact with others. I go after two poster on here, you and Cy5656, you have both earned it. You both nip at my heels, and make it easy for me, so I have no problems with it, not sure why you cry all the time about it.

I disagree with plenty of people around here, and I don't go after them or insult them. Just because I don't bow down to them and all of a sudden mimic their viewpoint, doesn't mean I am disrespecting them in any way. You certainly don't change your mind, yet you bash me for having my opinions and not changing them?

Have a nice day Dean. You really need to watch who you pick a fight with. Going back in history you started it and wouldnt relent.

Are you 10 years old, holding onto a grudge? I ignore you 95% of the time, but there are moments when you nip at my heels that I do notice you. Just keep on keeping on, you have the reputation of being the resident alloying know it all around these parts, and you certainly never disappoint in that department.

Oh you're right, there's no difference between freshmen linemen and seniors. My mistake. /s

Everyone though has excuses
Wisky had a subpar QB
Freshman RB and WR
A freshman and two sophomores on their O-line
I repeat everyone has excuses
KF has crawled inside your head and actually made you believe that only Iowa suffers obstacles

It was a reference to Brian trying to run thru 8 & 9 man fronts over and over, fool.

Myers wasn't any better than Jackson and one could argue that Boettger wasn't all that much better than Wirfs (at least toward the end of the season). The OT excuse is weak.

If used as an excuse maybe its weak, but the fact that we lost 2 Tackles that dominated the reps in the summer and spring no doubt had some variable impact. Do I believe our woes are all sumed up by 1 area? No. We had quite a few areas that under performed even without injuries.

There is no need to discredit that the injuries hurt, but this is football and injuries are going to happen. The ones who overcome them are often successful. The difference for me between Kirk's first ten years vs the last 9 is that Iowa has struggled to overcome injuries. Our depth does not fit "Next man in". Many times we lose a key contributer and we watch the wheels fall off.

Working from this:

Let's say you're a coach and you lose a couple guys and figure it will affect your team in a negative fashion.

You can
A) try to compensate somehow by doing some things differently (you know, like get someone in space or scheme your offense for tempo or quick releases or misdirection to give your QB more time)
B) not change a GD thing and cross your fingers

You would think 5 mil would buy you coach A. But not at Excuse U.

CBs concern me next year.

But remember, Jackson was not supposed to be Jackson this year, Rugumba was. I bet he will motivated over the next 9 months to make sure everyone is talking about him the same way we are talking about Jackson this year. Rugumba is a guy who was openly talking about 3 years and then NFL after his freshman season. Perhaps he just got a bit ahead of himself, and with a little re-orienting, he will be turning heads next year.

And OJ and Hankins ain't bad either.

I agree that running into 8/9 man fronts was a terrible strategy. Ferentz should have been taking what the defense was giving him. Saying that the freshmen Wirfs and Jackson were just as good run blockers as those two seniors seniors is false.

Wisconsin recruits better than Iowa too. They have the ability to play younger players. Iowa has to develop them. With that said, Ferentz needs to do a better job at recruiting so that his backups can step in and be manageable. I would rather have freshmen RBs and WRs then OTs, though. Offensive linemen take longer to develop.

Jackson was/is a better pass & run blocker than Myers. Fact!

Pass blocker, yes. Run blocker, not a chance. Boone was a guard playing out of position, sure, but he was a mauler in the run game. Plus AJ missed his assignment or straight up whiffed way a lot this season. His ceiling is higher, sure, but you cannot substitute 2 full years of starting experience.
