D coordinator happenings?

People in the Lounge on TOS like to put up phony threads because they know a lot of people come there who can only read the titles of the threads. They are just having fun at your expense.

I really don't think this is the case here. I am not a member of TOS, but if you read the thread, people who are on TOS are saying that this rumor was started by someone with a solid history, but is not giving sources. Given that I know one of the posters saying this personally, I tend to believe it's not people from the other site messing with us. For the record, I'm not saying the rumor is true, but it's possible.

LOL the dude was a HC. He's not going to take a postion coach job anywhere. It's just not how it works. There is no reason this couldn't be true, not saying it is, just saying it makes sense and is within the realm of possibility.

LOL....Dan McCarney says hi....as do many ex head coaches in the NFL.

It would seem highly unlikely KF would make a switch in the middle of a season unless there are health related issues. KF has been public about his support for both of his coordinators and 1 bad season is not enough for him to go back on his word.

But if it is health related then it would be nice to see Mike Stoops back at Iowa. Coordinators make a pretty good living, comparable to what a HC makes at a Mid Major and more then a FCS school.

I agree. The only way this is happening is if Norm has unfortunately had some bad health setback that we don't know about yet. FWIW, our defense is not bad this year due to Norm's scheme; it is due to lack of talent on the line because of attrition and injuries.

I also thought this was a reason why they didn't give anyone interim DC duties last year, but just assigned duties across the staff.

And such assignment of duties showed with our defense last year, too.

I'm getting the feeling that, right now, there's perhaps a lot more assignment going on again this year than we've been lead to believe, which might explain a lot of the struggles of the D (beyond attrition and such).

First of all when you reach the stage of having things amputated, you are never what you were. Diabetes is a disease that does not regress that much. I have had a family member that it started out with a foot and that slowed it, for a while. When he finally passed, it was really sudden to all of us.

On a lighter note, are not the Stoops Iowa fans and if Bob is under fire at Oklahoma, could Kirk be arranging something so if he left, he would leave the program in a good place. That is if you consider a Stoops family reunion good.

Crazy talk.

I could definitely see this. Stoops comes in for 4-5 years and does a great job as DC. He probably ends up leavin for a HC job somewhere else, and that gives coach k some more experience and he is able to step in as d coordinator when that time comes.

This one is pretty crazy. I know KF is NOT one to react to an Internet frenzy. But one would expect someone from the athletic department to have casually reached out to one of the friendly media sites to settle this one down if it was not true. Just no way this could be a good thing for any of the people involved if it is all just an Internet Circle**** and it keeps going.

agreed with one exception. If Norm's health is deteriorating again I could see Ferentz telling Norm that he really needs to worry about his health and let him go to protect Norm from himself basically.

and I could see Norm stepping down if he knew it was the best for the program. I could all realizing it as a good thing for all..not a firing...

The OP isn't cutting and running though. He is sticking by his story. Deal done and only a matter of when it's announced. I still call BS though but if this guy is right he has to be one of the most connected posters in history. Hell, nobody even knows 100% what happened with Wegher and I'm sure info out of Fort Kinnick is even harder to come by.

Very interesting. Stranger things have happened. We shall see.

You have to understand that on this site it will always be that way. If I said I was 100% certain that tomorrow is Wednesday someone will argue with me about it.
Link. Please.....

That is a Bold statement to make without citing your sources.....

:)

With no disrespect to Norm, i would fully embrace this move. We need a DC that will be on the sidelines that can instill passion and excitement to the defense. Iowa needs to show a little more multiple defenses. I would love to see exotic blitz and more man-man bump coverage.

Also would not hurt recruiting to be able to have the DC make trips and visit prospects.

Norm could easily run exotics blitzes and man-man bump coverage if that's what KF wanted. Norm runs what KF wants. If Stoops wants to comes here, Stoops will run what KF wants.

I think Norm has already provided his list into who his replacement should be. And, I'm sure he and Kirk have had lengthy discussions on it. If an unfortunate situation should occur, I'd guess we rode out this year with who we have now for defensive coaches and see who is the best available beginning next year.
