D coordinator happenings?

It's interesting to compare the tone between this thread and the one on TOS. Over there, people really seem to be buying it. Over here, much more skeptical. I will say, the original rumor poster has confirmed several times that he is 100% certain this is going to happen.

Just an observation.
You have to understand that on this site it will always be that way. If I said I was 100% certain that tomorrow is Wednesday someone will argue with me about it.

I do not like this stoops. He is a tool and seems to be way over excited. I would love to see them hire the Stoops away from FSU and maybe have a coach in waiting situation with him if he is as good as advertised.

BTW, on a side note, here's a theory that came to me last night... The reason why this Iowa staff doesn't have many (as many as Hayden) potential head coaches is because Ferentz has such a tight control on the decisions of the team.

Hayden, on the other hand, was a super delegator... alligator.

Does this mean Bob Stoops is coming when KF goes to the Chiefs?? Mixing rumors can be fun.

It is all predicated on what Norm can do.

If he cannot go any more, we have an open spot on the staff.

Who do you bring in at this point who can coach at this level, is available, and would want to come?

Not saying I am for or against it, but Stoops would appear to fit all three criteria.

Basing his rep as a DC based on AZ's record is a bit uninformed. He was a highly regarded defensive coach before taking that position in the desert.

Agree. I always find it funny when people think that because a coach is an excellent defensive or offensive coach that he will make a great head coach and have a great "side" on his team based upon his specialty. In other words, great DCs will make good head coaches with great defenses.

This is so ridiculous and really minimizes the impact of the DC or OC on his unit's performance.

If Mike Stoops was a good DC, let him get back to his roots both in terms of his alma mater and the side of the ball he coaches well. (This is all predicated on Coach Parker's blessing, of course)

I like it, will endorse the move if it takes place. How do you get Kirk into change? You light a fire beneath him- ie Stoops! Stoops needs Ferentz just as much as Ferentz needs Stoops! Stoops could be the next HC when KF decides to leave.

With no disrespect to Norm, i would fully embrace this move. We need a DC that will be on the sidelines that can instill passion and excitement to the defense. Iowa needs to show a little more multiple defenses. I would love to see exotic blitz and more man-man bump coverage.

Also would not hurt recruiting to be able to have the DC make trips and visit prospects.

when Mike coached for AZ he was a physchopath... now he would become a passionate coach with fire in his belly!!!

Kind of reminds me of the post about Bilas comment on Basabe and how he is well respected but if it was something negative he would have been an ACC lover and a dummy.

For the record, I would also embrace the move. I was never one to say anything about Mike and his reactions while coach at AZ or said anything about Rhodes either. I would prefer a coach with a little more excitement.

At first I thought, Stoops and Ferentz would never mix, but at second thought it may just be the perfect balance for one another.

Worked out so well in AZ. I will not be able to watch Iowa games if he was head coach. Guy is a complete idiot on the sidelines.

This is all interesting timing as KF did something I haven't heard before during the Indiana game and actually got involved by getting in the face of a specific unit that was not the O-line. He is usually very 'hands off' during games when it comes to his position coaches and coordinators.

Just like the Derby news, this seems like something that I would expect would be shut down pretty quickly if it was not true. Not saying it is true, just that I would expect them to shut it down fast, particularly out of respect for Norm.

1. We're not talking about him being the HC in IC. He's worked out well as a D coordinator before.

2. This does not happen if his boss is Kirk Ferentz.

HEY, HEY!. Did you read who I responded too. He wrote that he could see him as a DC and then becoming HC. THAT IS WHAT I WAS RESPONDING TOO.

@hawkfarmer : I think you have a good point, but I should have explained what I meant by my post. I think that Ferentz could mentor Stoops and have him be more tempered. After a 3-5 years under Ferentz, Stoops could be ready to take another HC job.

(sorry, you cannot quote on the iPhone app)

Maybe, but I don't see it. Maybe it is Mark Stoops from FSU. I would rather see that move.

Sorry, yo! I totally agree that I would not like to see him as HC. I think he could work out well as DC though.

On my 2nd point though, hopefully if he (Mike) ever did become HC (definitely don't see that happening though), Kirk would still be his boss as AD? Or is Kirk not nearly qualified enough for that position?
