D coordinator happenings?

If consultants were something any team could use...

Wouldn't every SEC team have 25 "consultants" assisting the coaching staff?

It is all predicated on what Norm can do.

If he cannot go any more, we have an open spot on the staff.

Who do you bring in at this point who can coach at this level, is available, and would want to come?

Not saying I am for or against it, but Stoops would appear to fit all three criteria.

Basing his rep as a DC based on AZ's record is a bit uninformed. He was a highly regarded defensive coach before taking that position in the desert.

I just don't see that happening. I would think Kirk would hire from within whenever that day comes

I would have agreed with that sentiment until last year when Norm went down. We saw terrible defensive teams that didn't look like what they did when Norm was there full time.

Maybe Kirk saw what happened and didn't like it? You never know. Big things like this usually have SOMETHING behind them. Does it? I don't know, but it sure is interesting.

LOL the dude was a HC. He's not going to take a postion coach job anywhere. It's just not how it works. There is no reason this couldn't be true, not saying it is, just saying it makes sense and is within the realm of possibility.

Charlie Weis?
Dan McCarney?

I know they're not "position" coaches, but we're talking about a coordinator position, correct?

Welll find the stats for when mike was a dcoordinator...otherwise apples and oranges buddy

His last year at Oklahoma they gave up 15.3 points a game and 260 yards a game of total offense. Not bad, but we also have to remember the kind of talent Oklahoma gets.

Charlie Weis? Dan McCarney?

charlie weis went directly from notre dame to be offensive coordinator for an nfl team. I was a bit different situation the within a few years he was a co head coach

Weis took a coordinator job correct?

Iowa State coaches dont count

And why is that?

I'm just pointing out that just because a guy was a head coach before, doesn't mean that he wouldn't take a position that is a step down, like a coordinator position. It happens all of the time.

to be clear nobody in their right mind thinks norm parker might step down because the defense is struggling this year. if he steps down it will almost certainly be due do to health issues.

I say give it a try! Why not? Give it 2-3 years and if it doesn't work out well you make a change.

the KC job was the only thing offered to FrontButt after he embarrassed himself in Suck Bent. Now he's O coord at FreeShoesU.

Exactly, but I do have to say I am intrigued by this rumor. Making lemonade if you ask me.

Is he having more health issues? I haven't heard anything about his health this year. I assumed he is healthier this year, than last because I hadn't heard anything.

It's interesting to compare the tone between this thread and the one on TOS. Over there, people really seem to be buying it. Over here, much more skeptical. I will say, the original rumor poster has confirmed several times that he is 100% certain this is going to happen.

Just an observation.

he has been suffering from very very severe complications from diabetes. you can treat some of the symptoms like when he had his toes amputated but you can't get rid of the disease. in addition to circulation it also severely impacts the heart as well is nearly every other internal organ.

diabetes is a horrible horrible disease.

We know that our current coaching staff shows very little emotion, and for the most part, I'm good with that. I like the professionalism. However, if there is one aspect of the game where we could probably show a little more emotion, and someone to get them fired up, it's the D. Mike Stoops could do that. I'm still not sure how I feel about this though.
