Relatively speaking. The alternative would likely have been far worst.
I think it would have been far more preferable to have kept the Big 12 intact. It's what was verses what might be (no guarantee on future revenue for Big 12 schools like Iowa State, just promises. And we all know how far promises go in big time college athletics).
