Cyclones Drop Big 12s

As somebody from CF posted...

"Disappointing but at least ISU is wrestling in a conference tournament with some real competition unlike Iowa and the little ten. ISU will need to step it up next at the Nationals. The thing is like a demolition derby, you never know who will get beat (remember Caldwell's win?) They might have a chance but have to really want it, they didn't today."

LOLOLOL

NOW THAT made me LAUGH! hhahaha

You love the people who can't accept it? He is one of the best wrestler but the obvious best? Hard to say that we he didn't win a title last year. But you aren't biased...are you?

not baised i am a iowa fan but i DO know who the best wrestler is in the nation. if brent wins a national championship he will get the hodge trophy given to the best wrestler fyi

just heard it gable and gibbons wrestled in the big 5 and they said the big 10's is the toughest tournament

Varner probly more deserving. Even tho I hated the outcome it just reminds me why I love this sport. Typically there r no excuses. Palmer wore Brent out

indeed you can't blame your teamates for a loss its all on your shoulders

I am not coming here to rub it in. I still think Metcalf wins a title and that is all that matters. But once again, it is hard to say who is the best wrestler in the country is. Let alone to think it is a lock like you did

at the time he WAS the best wrestler sir now he clearly is not

According to who? Hawkeye fans. And according to Cyclone fans Varner was the best. According to Hoosier fans Escobedo was the best. See my point. Different weight classes, different styles, etc. No way of knowing.

well i understand that there is no way of knowing but by going off of hodge rules and who it would get awarded too metcalf was the front runner.

i think the front runner is ness and varner

when it comes to criteria ness is the favorite

Here's some thoughts for you guys to think about. Has everybody forgotten what Jaybo has done all year? Metcalf had 1 loss when he won it before. What if McDonough wins it while in the process of beating 2 defending National Champs?.......

McDonough probably has about 5% chance of winning it but just something to think about. BUT if all the others I listed lose (which is possible) he would be the next logical choice.

Jaybo still has a good shot in my mind. He hasn't been in any real danger this year other than Dwyer and if he were to go out and walk to the finals(I believe he will) then controls Lewnes he has to be in the conversation.

Metcalf can still win it. He just needs to put up lots of bonus points which he WILL and then go out and beat Palmer which he WILL also do, if Palmer makes back to him.

Ness is probably the front runner now but he could easily get beat by Gomez who likely will get the 4 seed! Gomez is a BAD matchup for Ness!!

Varner is Varner. He has a shot at it also. In my mind he would need Ness & Metcalf to lose and then he has to win and likely have to beat Brester 3 times in year which is no easy task. That being said he is one of the great ones out there and wouldn't have a problem having him win it IF Ness & Metcalf both lose.

As for the Best who really know! If you want "style" Ness & Metcalf win, if you want lower score's with lots of punishing riding than Varner & Jaybo win, if you want a quick and explosive types Escobedo is your guy. I man enough to admit Varner is the best "big" wrestler out there I still say Metcalf is the best "middle weight" wrestler out there & honestly I don't know who is the best "lighter weight" is Escobedo & Ness are close but you have to throw McDonough into the conversation also.

o of course just was stating who is front runner not would was in contension

metcalf could win he has won this thing before with a loss so who is to say its not possible.

its ness's to lose.

The heavier the weight classes the less scoring. I thought this was well known. Yet you guys are taking some credit away from Varner for not constantly winning by 10+ (or so it seems like you are saying). Sure he hasn't dominated everybody like Metcalf or Ness have at times, but I think that has more to do with weight classes

I'm a hawk fan through and through, but Varner was a front runner before bigtens. Years past you could argue he wouldn't dominate, not anymore. His wins are mostly pins and majors.

Metcalf has been taken down this year by Mueller, Molinaro, Palmer. Am I forgetting anyone?

Who has taken down Varner this entire season?

Is everyone forgetting Escobedo? Undefeated with wins over #2(yes by default) and now #3. If he wins it this year he will have taken it away from the defending champ and had to beat McD again, although I think McD will get him next time. He is going for his 4th AA I believe and title #2. Can't look too far past him if he gets it all. If McD can beat him and beat Nickerson, he should definitely be considered. Setting record for IOWA this year, he would have had to beat #1 and #2, defending national champ, and would end the year with only one loss as a freshman...great accomplishments.
