Cully Payne's comments and yesterday's performance

Everyone has seen Cully Payne comments that he is in full support of Coach Lickliter.

IMO this performance yesterday was a player not happy about what is going down. Of the 56 field goal attempts taken he accounted for 30% of them. Iowa attempted 20 3's and Payne accounted for 50% of those.

At one point in yesterday's game Cully Payne had 23 of Iowa's 41 points with 3/4 of the game in the books. His best effort of the year. That was a player playing for his coach yesterday. IMO he put the team on his back and was doing it all for much of the game. Sure other's were playing hard, but none more noticeable than Payne.

Couldn't agree more. Cully is a player and it showed yesterday. We are talking about a kid that is a freshman. Potential is HUGE upside.

I will have to reread his comments, but the comments i saw i did not get the feeling that he would leave if lick left. I only had the feeling that he came to play for lick, and that he fully supports him.

Now if he can only cure the "jump pass" then he will be a GREAT player!

Good game, he picked it up because Gater and may were not playing very good. I wish he could of gotten done earlier in the year. Iowa needed a scoring threat besides Fuller and Gatens.

I hope the door doesn't hit him on the way out if he really is that supportive of Lick. The fact that the current staff has interest in his younger brother might have something to do with it.

I don't think Payne was playing for his coach yesterday. I think Payne is a gritty player that plays his ba!!$ off no matter what. He looked for his shot a little more yesterday and he played a great game. Fuller was being double teamed everytime he touched the ball, while Gatens and May were not hitting their 3's.

Payne did what good PG's do and penetrated when he had to and shot open 3's when they were there.

He has the potential to be very good at Iowa and I would hate to see him leave. I like his competitiveness and his toughness.

i too like payne. his up side is very good. I think overall he is better then horner was, and horner was a 4 year starter right?

I discount anything a player would say immediately after a game,in the heat of the moment. A new coach worth his salt could re-recruit Cully in a heartbeat, imo. No one wants to leave school in the middle of a career if they are playing a ton of minutes ,specially at a big time school in a great conference like Iowa, unless the new guy wanted him to leave.

Cully is going to shoot the ball better the rest of his career...great mechanics.
As I have said before, I think he is a combo guard in the vein of Neitzel of MSU..get another true pg in the guard rotation and he can play both spots to take advantage of his spot up shooting talent.

If Cully was about 3 inches taller he'd be quite the prize. I still like him and have been impressed.

I think Payne would be smart to at least wait and see who the next coach is going to be before up and transferring..

I would have to say the only thing that Cully Payne has on Horner is speed. In terms of shooting, passing, handling, smarts Horner blows Payne out of the water...

Cully put the team on his back yesterday, he's taking charge. No one else on the team has stepped up all year. Good to see it.

He is not faster then Jeff...they are both SLOW. However, Cully plays balls to the wall all the time. That I appreciate...

If Cully Payne were to leave the program it would be a huge loss. To think otherwise just shows a lack of knowledge.
