Cubs = Stupid

Can you believe how stupid Theo Epstein and the Cubs are??? Why would you ever fire Mike Quade or Dale Sveum? Don't they realize that firing a coach that doesn't meet expectations might result in hiring a coach that makes you worse??? Why would they ever spoil the good thing they had of being consistently mediocre/sub par. I just don't get why you would do that. (Massive amounts of sarcasm intended)

I know that you're kidding, but the difference between Iowa and the Cubs as an organization is that Ferentz has his foot on the throat of this program and pulls all the strings. Theo is a proven manager that doesn't take ****, and Barta is a spineless stiff

The intended jab was to all those dopes who cry about Tom Davis and how that turned out. When the milk goes bad you don't keep it in the fridge because throwing it away is a waste of money.

Theo's strategy was executed almost perfectly. Acquire as much young talent as possible by trading away veterans that were on the roster already and signing and trading competent veterans at the trade deadline to contenders for young pieces. Once the young players started to break into the show, then go after some bigger fish in free agency ie Jon Lester and then the following year Heyward, Lackey, and Zobrist to help alleviate the pressure for the young guys. Stealing a guy like Maddon away from TB was just the icing. He's probably not the greatest x and o manager out there but he is a players manager that gets his players to play loose, have fun, and play with a team first mentality. Really the only weakness going into next season will be trying to find bullpen help as I doubt Theo would be dumb enough to give Chapman the contract he's going to want.

The more I think about this stupid freaking thread the more pissed off I get. Obviously the OP isn't a Cubs fan at all, and knows nothing about baseball. There is nothing similar or comparable about a baseball manager and a D1 college football coach.

I just don't get the toxic fans at all. KF is gonna be coach, it is what it is. It is beyond me why people cry, bitch, moan, complain about things that have a 0.0% chance of changing.

I think Ferentz could solve most of the issues by simply hiring a young, aggressive offensive coordinator.

Greg Davis must go

I agree completely. that said, one of the knocks on KF is either the lack of desire, ability to do so. The hiring and retention of Davis and record against teams we were double digit favorites(including ISU) are the 2 things that are indefensible. I like and respect KF...but those 2 things above....grrrr.

This honestly isn't even funny. I could literally see the Ferentz lineage continuing for 108 years as the head coach of Iowa. Brian is next in line, then it will be his son, and his son, and so on...

It'll be like a royal dynasty. Until the masses storm the Bastille.

I see what you did there.

He built this team to be good for a few years. Once they were able to unload that Soriano contract, the ball got rolling. That thing was an anchor to the Cubs.

2014 Chicago Cubs opening day lineup.

CF Emilio Bonifacio
LF Junior Lake
SS Starlin Castro
1B Anthony Rizzo
3B Mike Olt
C Welington Castillo
RF Nate Schierholtz
2B Darwin Barney

Madden is a great coach, don't get me wrong, but even God himself couldn't have managed that 2014 squad to the Series.

Compare D1 football coaches to other D1 coaches......not to baseball managers. This comparison is just stupid as **** really.
Wow, that's rough. 1 guy left on the roster from the starting 8. What a masterful rebuild. To win only 2 years later is incredible.

Theo built this team, not Madden. Several managers could have done what he did, but there isn't a guy out there that could have built the depth and talent that Theo has amassed.
And Maddon's managerial decisions are mixed reviews -- especially with the SPs and Chapman. Winning saved him a whole hurt of second guessing.
Having your closer work more innings than your starters over a 4 day period. With a 5-run lead. And a 3-run lead. Crazy nuts.
