Cubs sign Bob Howry

Grabow walking batters + handing the ball to Howry = recipe for disaster

Marshall looking studly again. Our bullpen had one weakness, now it has two. Put the young guys in and let them play. Grabow and Howry aren't going to get it done. Period. There's a reason Howry got dumped by the cubs in 08 and the Dbacks dumped him now. Great move. :(

He got shelled when he threw low to mid 90's with the Cubs a couple years ago. Now he's throwing upper 80's. Why did we sign this guy again? We should have called Jay Jackson up from AAA.

I would complain but the Cubs need all they can get in the bullpen. He might be below average but now he's the 2nd best reliever.

Agreed. Just remember that we saw this movie against the Diamondbacks, and then the Cubs went 1-5 on their next road trip.
True. Also, this week is the Dodgers and Cardinals at home, so we will find out soon. Big Z throws a simulated game tomorrow and they will see if he is ready for the rotation. The bats need to come alive and the pitching needs to stay steady. By the way, Carlos Silva is 6-0! :)

Indeed. Another interesting angle to this is that in the past 35 games before this trip, (or first 35, not really sure), the Cubs oppenents had a combined winning percentage of around .450. The Cubs went 15-20 against those teams.

This weekend they played two teams in first place, on the road, won 3 games and could have won the other two. Granted, they just as easily could have lost all 5. If there is any sign for optimism coming out the trip, it's that they played really good baseball against good teams, and 2 of the wins were by one run. Thats a bit different than beating up one the worst bullpen in the majors like they did against Arizona.

Not a fan of the 6 man rotation. Get your best starters out there when you can. Now, I think Gorz should move to the bullpen and ouster Grabow. I think he could be trade bait in July if he continues to flounder. Howry should go as well, and bring back Berg.

Our young guys were doing so well in the pen, now we have Howry and Grabow who have struggled mightily all year.
