Another good day.
It's amazing that Marmol was signed as a catcher/outfielder.With Marmol, it's all about control. There was some crazy stat I saw last year where only 13% (or somewhere around this number) of the time when a batter swings does he make contact with Marmol's pitch. That is flat disgusting. It's the games where he walks the first three batters, then hits the next batter to walk in a run that make me want to pull my hair out.
Randy Wells also came up through the Cubs organization as a catcher. The switch to pitcher has worked out very well for both of them. Also remember that Marmol was horrible as a starting pitcher. He's found his niche coming in for an inning and letting it fly. It's amazing that Marmol was signed as a catcher/outfielder.
Great win by cubbies today...good comeback! I try not to get too worked up in April while everyone is still trying to find their groove...and the weather in chicago can be just awful.
I wanted to get to Principal Park tonite to see Lilly pitch, but couldn't make it. Anyone have a report?
I wasn't at the game, but I saw he went 4 innings, giving up 1 run and striking out 4. He should still be on pace to join the rotation at the end of April. Our AA team in Tennessee saw Andrew Cashner strike out 10 over 6 innnings. He has 20 strikeouts in 10 innings so far this year. Cashner was the Cubs first pick two years ago, and was TCU's closer in college. The Cubs have converted him to a starter, but are keeping a close pitch count because he never started in college and therefore never racked up a lot of pitches in a single outing. I think this kid has the potential to be real good at the major league level. He's 6'6" and has a mid 90's fastball with a good slider, and he's also working on a changeup that is coming along nicely.

suppan is coming off the disabled list with a neck injury and zambrano is coming off a shaky game(shocker) i think we will smash suppan with our exploding offense
