Yeah, the 4th and 10 scramble finished us, but Posey dropped the TD pass before that. So Pryor should have beaten us with his arm.

we really dropped the ball on letting chizik leave the state, dude is a winner, and he knows how to $attract$ running quarterbacks. is crazy how before this season everyone clowned on him, pun intended, and now everyone wants his offensive scheme

Well technically, it's Malazahn's scheme. And I don't think he'll be there for too long. That guy is the next hot ticket assistant coach.

Now THAT was what happened when Malazahn was at Arkansas lol. He was running this scheme at Tulsa (after he left Arkansas). Chizik hired him to bring in that scheme.
I don't think he should be THE QB, but it's not stupid to think that perhaps we could utilize the fact that he, along with half our WR corp have QB experience. Throw him in from time to time and change it up a bit! Shake up the opposing defenses a little! We don't need to put in "Wildhawk" formations all the time or anything, but we need to stop being so goddamn predictable.

the predictability is probably the most frustrating thing, dont really think it is stupid to say he should take some snaps, but it would be crazy coming from ferentz, who knows, it has just as much potential to be a disaster as it is to work...there is a reason these players switched positions and werent recruited to play QB

This is exactly the kind of creative thinking the Ferentz system lacks. The OP is onto something. Not changing the fundamental philosophy or basic offense, BUT taking best advantage of the potential weapons you have AND keeping the defense off balance. It works AGAINST us. Why not make it work FOR us?
McNutt at QB 8 or 10 plays a game, at strategic moments, would be a brilliant change-up for our basic O. McNutt could be like Pryor on those 3rd -- or 4th -- and longs. He came in as a QB, worked as a QB, and has a strong arm, so he certainly could toss a few passes. But more significantly, he could take off, a la Pryor, and take advantage of a defense that's in coverage and spread all over the field.
This would not require much to install, except a bit of open-mindedness and a desire to make most effective use of the personnel we have. Is that really too much to ask?

As mentioned, I could see him in a Wild Cat variant because he does have speed and the ability to throw (not great, but he CAN throw). Throw in Derby and we've got quite the triple option for a little offensive shake up. But with KOK, I doubt it.

You probably don't care that much what an outsider has to say, but this seems like an awful idea.
Vandenberg looks like he can be a very good QB, possibly has the tools to be the best you guys have had in a long, long time, and McNutt is a HELL of a WR. Maybe Top 10 in the country going into next year. I've been more impressed w/him than anyone you guys have had since Greenway. I'd give a leg to have him in Ames.
I guess, I don't see why you'd want to move McNutt out of WR when he's really, really good at it, and you might be better @ the QB spot by the 2nd half of next year.

I believe that McNutt is the surest bet of any player off of this year's team to be a future NFL player. The guy reminds me of Chris Carter (OSU, Minn Vikes). I wholeheartedly agree with the idea of getting the ball into the hands of your best player(s) as often as possible, and this guy is that man on next year's squad. Frankly, I would love to see him run the ball a few times and then do a few Tebowesque type plays, faking the run into the line and let unleash it over the top to a 6'-7" sophomore gorilla tight end, who is another likely future NFL player, who turns it into a 20 yard pass play. I could easily become accustomed to it. Run McNutt in the wildcat 4 - 6 times a game.
