Beathard looked good. I'm not sure there's anything he could have done better. I would agree that the future of the QB position looks very bright. Can we give some recruiting love to the coaches for that or is it just blind luck?
Beathard looked like a natural running the zone read. His ball fakes were superb (the announcers even commented on that). I'll temper my enthusiasm however because of the quality of the opponent. Right when Beathard entered the game he had a couple long runs on the zone read. He deserves credit because he executed it very well, but I also think that was probably one of the last things the defense was expecting.
I think Sokol is out of options (other than FCS??) because he redshirted last season. He's likely to finish at Iowa.
With Beathard, I can definitely see his potential. I see Beathard fitting the G.D. offensive philosophy when he had running qb's at Texas, more than Rudock and I see Rudock fitting the pro style better, at this point. Rudock can definitely scramble more than adequately. Rudock is effective as a scrambler, where Beathard looks to allow for actual running plays at the qb position.
If Beathard fails to take the 1 spot from Rudock, then he could transfer. If that were to happen, which I hope it doesn't, then I would hope that Nic Shimonek is at least as good/has as much potential as both Rudock and Beathard. I see Shimonek as having huge potential.
Were you sleeping the fifteen times Rudock's taken off down the field like Brad Banks and the four times he scored touchdowns?
Grape, your comprehension skills appear to be lacking and you seem to always be looking to argue with someone. You really add nothing to a thread beyond your argumentative comments.
Did you glean all that in the eleven minutes you've been on this site?
Unless Rudock gets hurt, or, we're in another rout (either winning or losing one), CJ won't be seeing the field much more the rest of the season.
Now Harris, let's not start a holy war...My favorite Jesus lover hating long hairs?
Yeah, they weren't expecting him to keep the zone read as the scouting report says our QBs never keep the zone read. For some reason, Rudock isn't getting that aspect...he kept it today when there were two defensive players on the outside. That being said, Rudock has exceeded my wildest expectations in every category. He is accurate, he manages the game, he's in control of the team, and he makes plays with his feet. The one thing I was concerned about, he's already improved immensely. His pocket presence and feeling pressure was suspect in week one...the interception where he got hit and it floated up in the air, he should have seen coming as it was right in front of him. Today, he sidestepped a guy, moved up in the pocket and threw a strike to Hillyer I think. Very impressive.
Honestly, Rudock is perfect for this offense as it requires some cerebral capabilities. The last two games, he hasn't thrown anything I thought could be picked. When he misses, he's missing in the right spot where only his receiver has a shot. I'm feeling more and more confident, he won't make mistakes on the road in the B10...the big concern with a guy starting for the first time. I'm concerned about the OSU game however. We need to protect him from getting hit too much.
