Consistency and Integrity

Who ever takes over for KF, in my mind, no matter who it is... is going to take a step back ...at least at first. Kind of hard not to with all the ground work layed by the staff in front of them. So, when the time happens that's what I am prepared for. It's why I have been cheering for the team to have a break out year and so BF got the good will of the fans to take the gig. Less turnover, even though there would still be a lot of turnover....it wouldn't completely blow up our culture. I hate to see that all just scrapped. That's just me.... I realize most people want different.

Yes I'm sure he's a very good person and yes, almost all of his players would say they love him.
NEWS FLASH: Almost every college player, regardless of the sport loves their HC...it's nothing extraordinary! In fact it's perfectly normal and IT'S EXPECTED as what all coaches should be for their players.
I think my dislike for Ferentz has nothing to do with the man - Lord knows he and his wife have donated so much money to very worthy causes. Gotta respect the man for that.
Why do I want him to retire? It's the sheer monotony of what he's done to Iowa Football.
The same ol' - same ol' blah, lukewarm oatmeal, non-exciting, ultra-predictable, don't dare risk it, non-exciting, stuck in the 70's BORING play calling, gum-chewing permanent fixture on the sideline that he's become.
Will I miss him?
Nope. Not one frickin' bit. Does that make me a bad person? Nope. I've wanted a change since 2012 and even in the middle of the oh-so special RoseBowl year of 2015 I still would have voted for a HC change.
Just my opinion which isn't worth a dime and truly doesn't matter at all... and at the same time it's worth the same exact amount as your opinion.

When you self supervise, set your own "goals," are adept at rationalizing every loss, are able to hire "family," in the forgiving environment of Iowa, how could the tenure be less? Who is going to tell you it is time to move on, why would you leave to face "expectations?"
I've been critical of Kirk on numerous occasions, and was more than ready to move on at the end of a few different seasons, especially '07.

But, his longevity is more than just because of forgiving fans and nepotism. To be fair, he's won B1G Coach of the Year 4 times, AP Coach of the Year, Walter Camp Coach of the Year and Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year.

He's far from perfect, but when you combine that record with his universal respect amongst his peers, and his record of running a respectable and clean (cleaner than most) program, it makes for a pretty good legacy that we almost certainly will miss 15-20 years from now.

OK, but I wonder what coaches "really say" about Kirk when they are working on a game plan to defeat Iowa?

He has longevity numbers...not HOF numbers...and big game folditis... But he keeps on ticking, like the EverReady Bunnie. He knows how to "work the crowd" and "The AD." No doubt about that.

Everyone should be confident enough to believe ... and have the integrity to realize when it's time to change direction.

Swinney - Never a coordinator before being named interim head coach at Clemson. :)

So the argument is that Kirk Ferentz is the only coach in America that is a decent human being and is capable of delivering consistently average to slightly above average results at a well established, well funded Big Ten West school with excellent facilities and an amazingly loyal fan base? What are we so afraid of?

Is there a chance the next coach could fail? Yes. Is there a chance that a new coach could take us to a higher level. Absolutely! Can this coach GOING FORWARD take us to the next level? The answer is most likely no. we have seen our best days with Kirk. Give him a statue, put him in the Hall of Fame and let's move on.
