Consistency and Integrity

It happens all the time at Wisconsin and they don't have any more talent than Iowa does. If they can make it work, Iowa should be able to make it work too.

It's happened at Iowa three times under JHF, and five times under KF. That's eight times in 40 seasons. In other words, historically, it's happened 20% of the time in the last 40 years.

And of course, Wisconsin is the only D-I/FBS team in their state, which of course, has 5.8+ million people compared with Iowa's 3.1+ million people.

I'm well aware of how often Iowa falls short of winning 10 games. I was talking about Wisconsin. Doesn't it ever get old making excuses of why Iowa can't, shouldn't, or be expected to win 10 games? Next year's is already in place (new QB, hard schedule). At some point excuses just have to stop.

So why aren't the best teams in college football in New York, Florida, & California? They have enough population to go around for all of their schools.

So...because YOU wan/think it should happen, it will. Got it. Please solve climate change, or at least expose it for the mythology that it is....

Uh, quite often the best teams HAVE been from Florida and California. And what NY-area school, aside from Syracuse or Rutgers, has been a football powerhouse in your lifetime? And even at that, neither has ever been at the top of the heap.

Good man, good representative, very generous. I just wish he knew the right time to get out. That was a couple years ago.

Yes, I want it to happen.

Hey just keep on making excuses and blaming outside circumstances for what's going on inside Iowa's football programs.

What excuses? YOU'RE the one who thinks it should be commonplace.

Your excuses in this thread were that Iowa hasn't won 10 games often over the last 40 years and comparing their population to Wisconsin's and Wisconsin being the only major program in their state.

I think you need to focus your excuses more on the coach being better on game day.

So...history is moot in your world. Gotcha.

I'm wondering if at some future date we'll miss the consistency of 8 wins per year. I wonder if we'll miss the decency and maturity of Kirk Ferentz.

 - I'll bite...

No - With Iowa's non-con schedule, playing in the West and drawing the weakest to winnable cross-overs, it's pretty easy to consistently win 8 games. Given all resources, support, name-brand / conference and state of the program, I think 7 of 10 future candidates could do it, site unseen. I think 2 of the remaining 3 could drop to 5 or 6 wins, I think the right 1 would consistently win 9+.

No - There's a lot of decent, mature guys that can coach. Even if they're not the "good guy" level of mighty Kirk, I wouldn't miss it. Fact, I think I'd like more outward display of enthusiasm + a little piss and vinegar.

The obvious answer to your question is “No” for most Iowa fans.

Reminds me of when I lived and worked in Iowa. I knew hundreds of employees who did the same profession as I do. The position offered promotions to any that had the balls to take the risk. You would have higher expectations at each promotion and if expectations weren’t met that could lead to dismissal.

The promotions meant higher pay and less physically demanding work. Yet most chicken hawks (no pun intended) rather stay at their mundane low paying position rather than try to stretch and challenge themselves and have a better life for their families.

While they make their chicken hawk $40,000 yearly salary I am making six figure income and have put my spouse and children through college. We have a pretty comfortable life that we wouldn’t have had other wise.

What’s really sad is that Kirk has absolutely nothing to lose at this point. He could go to Brian and tell him “What the hell! Brian I want you to go to a wide open offense. Let’s have have some fun until I decide to retire.

We all know he has total job security regardless of how it works out. He has nothing to lose. Seriously how could it be worse. It certainly couldn’t be more boring to watch. If after three years it doesn’t work then Kirk could go back to the same ole boring offensive schemes.

It would be fun to watch them try it.

I should add here that I am nothing special. I am just an average guy like the other workers. I just tried to reach out of my comfort zone to make life better for my family. It was a hard choice because my previous position had security but I knew if I didn’t try it would mean a hard struggle for raising my family. Faith in God gave me the courage to do it.

You take that back. This is the pic of a guy that had 5 conference wins since taking the reigns of the sleeping giant. They'll be winning NC's like they did not so long ago. We just don't recognize it because were too busy playing Nintendo 64 and our original PlayStations, while enjoying our dial up internet. All those other things that were equally as popular when Nebraska was.
