Connor McCaffery - Class of 2017 Vid

Connor McCaffery -- 2017 -- G -- West H.S.
6'4" -- Iowa City, IA
The son of Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery, Connor is already fundamentally sound and the lefty can get it done inside and out. He showed some perimeter skill by knocking in some jumpers and handling a bit and also played a bit inside by rebounding and scoring on the interior. He has a nice feel for the game at an early stage.

Interesting! Where does he play HS ball at spank and what grade does that put him in... 9th? I know both Fran and his wife are pretty tall. Looks like Connor already has nice size and he almost certainly isn't done growing. I'd like to think we have a pretty solid recruiting advantage on this one ;)

I would expect the people who rip on KF for giving scholarships to Brian and James Ferentz would be against Fran offering Connor.

Yes, freshman this year. I believe he is still going to school at IC West.

Looks like he would give Little Lick a run for his money and he hasn't even played a game of high school basketball yet.

Looks pretty promising.

Better pass. You see those shorts and shoes he was wearing? I don't think Fran would go for that!

Only a freshman so plenty of time for him to continue to develop but I'm not seeing a Big 10 division 1 type athlete in the video but I'm not recruiting expert.

Do people complain about that, they were both pretty good players and deserved their scholarships. Lil Lick getting a scholarship for a year was criminal.

If Connor develops athletically, he looks like he could be a good one, if he doesn't, he could be a hell of a walk-on, or play in a smaller conference.

Sure people have. 3 year starters both of them I believe.

Idiots actually thought KF should have just paid their tuition and that could have created an extra scholly in each class they came in with. Too bad there is a lot of advantages scholarship football players get that walk ons dont, which is what these people were expecting Brian and James to be.

You are right about not being a recruiting expert. Conner and his brother will play Div 1 bb...hopefully at Iowa. They will most likely be over 6'6'' wing/small forward types....think Sam Decker.

Yes, how much taller do we expect him to grow?

Who knows, he's around 6'4" right now as a freshman in high school. If his game stays the same (passing, outside shot, ball handing, etc...) and he continues to grow, he will be an excellent stretch forward / point forward for the D1 school of his choice.

How Old is his brother?
Conner has a nice shooting stroke for a frosh. Will be solid, think Jeff Horner solid at least but could be quicker by the time he's a senior. Great move by Barta hiring a coach with younger kids ;)
In all seriousness though, if his AAU team has some studs I would think having him on the team to build relationships could be an advantage in future recruiting?

Iowa already has a pretty decent relationship with the Barnstormers FWIW

Sam Dekker was the #13 ranked player in the nation according to Rivals after his senior year and #30 player in college BBall.

Again... I'm not tryign to dog on the kid and he's only a freshamn so a lot can change but you must see something different than I do in the video because I see a lot of passing.

Have you seen him play or have you read something to draw the comparison to a Sam Dekker type talent?
