Congratulations to Dan McCarney

They're putting a coach who was 56-85 at their school in the hall of fame?

He does have the most bowl wins in program history and also nearly half of their bowl appearances. So unless they decide to just not have a hall of fame, you need to put someone in there.

And he won the 2nd half of many, many football games:)

39% winning percentage. Think about it. 1/3 of his games were non-conference. They weren't scheduling Alabama (or whoever was good back then). He got lucky to get Iowa when Fry was done and Ferentz was starting. He also got to coach when the Big 12 was split into 2 divisions, so he got to miss half of the teams from the south every year. 39%. Wow.

So that means the Paul Rhoads hall of fame induction ceremony is slated for 2026?

You got it, totally sponsored in part by Harley Davidson, and serving baked beans, potatoe salad, and pulled pork sandwiches. The kids all receive yellow and red balloons....loads of fun, bring the whole family

You realize KF has an 8-9 record against ISU......Kinda wish you would've left that sentence out, bro. That is definitely a cringeworthy note on the KF resume.

While the game is important to fans and every game is important to win, Ferentz treats it as just another non-conference game. He does NOT treat it as a Super Bowl; that's ISU's perspective.

Success is a relative term.

Is there another college football stadium named after someone who got trampled to death?

Sorry, I'm lost. What does this have to do with Half Price Stadium?

Did people get trampled when they turned on the blue light at KMart?

Come on, guys... either you're just in the mood to give someone a hard time or you don't know the real value McCarney brought to the ISU athletic department.

Record aside, McCarney was an amazing presence in the ISU athletic department. I knew him very well as our car dealership was part of the coaches car program at ISU (as well as UI).

McCarney always had a smile, an enthusiastic handshake and a positive word for everyone he came in contact with. Other coaches within the department would call on Dan to speak to their teams. He simply made everyone better and was die hard cheerleader for everyone connected with the program, the athletic department and the entire ISU community. When he wasn't busy he didn't sit idly by taking time off. He would ask around to see if there was anything anyone wanted or needed him to do. He gave his time and effort willingly to anyone who wanted it.

If this guy never won a game he belongs in the ISU Hall of Fame.

But he did win a few. He is ISU's all time winning-est football coach. He led them to 5 bowls in 12 years. Big deal... but if you look at what he had to work with I think he did a stellar job. He actually brought hope to a program that hadn't had any for a long time.

That... and he's a Hawkeye... say nothing bad about this Hawkeye... he's a good one through and through. He deserves our respect and admiration.
