Conference Schedules and Divisions

Or make it less complicated and just go four year cycles. It would be preferred if all teams met each other every 6 to 8 years, but if it didn't happen no big deal. Play a little more loose with the long term scheduling. Let teams assess their needs and preferences. If certain matchups get left out there may be good reason.

Cool Idea,, I would love for Iowa to have the following cross-division schedule

Play OSU, Mich, PSU, MSU, and MD all twice in 4 years
Play Indy and Rut once every 4 years.

And ironically while we'd be blessed with that schedule you'd magically see the stars align and see the combination of OSU, Michigan, PSU, and Michigan State somehow manage to work themselves into a unique situation where no more than 2 schools would ever see each other during a given season and playing once every 4 years (outside of conference championships).

This probably never happen but wouldn't this be a great division lineup?
East
Penn State
Ohio State
Pitt
Syracuse (replace Rutgers for NY market)
Michigan
Michigan St
Illinois

West
Wisky
Iowa
Notre Dame
Nebby
Purdue
Minny
Indy
That way Indiana schools all keep their rivalries, Wisky and Iowa and Minny keep theirs

Michigan teams and OSU keep theirs
Penn teams revive theirs
And we upscale with the Cuse
Get rid of rutgers and maryland

Minnesota doesn't get a lot of credit. They haven't played Wisconsin, Iowa, Penn State, Michigan or Ohio State. But that isn't their fault. They have a great opening 8 week schedule and they have made the best of it. They got to open with 2 of the least competitive programs as crossovers. Rutgers, Maryland. Then they get Penn State on the back half.

While on the other end of the scheduling dice roll, Northwestern got Michigan State, Wisconsin, Ohio State and Iowa front loaded on their schedule.

Add in the Ohio State factor; Teams in the West that play Ohio State are take a loss and teams that don't play Ohio State don't get that loss.

Throw in the programs that are making an upswing such as Indiana and Illinois and it's almost impossible to make a equitable schedule.

When the B1G was looking to the east market for another team I was hoping they would grab Syracuse. Syracuse gave Iowa a big scare. They are a team that would travel all over the country and play anyone. And play them hard.

At least Maryland has potential. Rutgers is like expired milk.
