Conference Qualifier Allocations released...

B1G gets:

125 - 6
133 - 7
141 - 5
149 - 9
157 - 6
165 - 8
174 - 9
184 - 7
197 - 7
285 - 10

So looking at this I would say Qualifiers would look like:

PSU (8) - 125, 149, 157, 165, 174, 184, 197, and 285
MINN (9) - 125, 133, 141, 149, 165, 174, 184, 197, and 285
IOWA (9)- 125, 133, 141, 149, 157, 165, 174, 184, and 285

This looks about right to me.

My first thought is I hope DSJ qualifies. A quick look at intermat and he's has 5 B1G guys ahead of him. Obviously rankings aren't the end all, but he's going to have to be on next weekend or he'll have a couple extra weeks to heal his knee.

I think DSJ has a great shot at a wildcard if he doesn't qualify via placing at Big 10s. Obviously it would depend who else around the country failed to qualify in their conference tournament, but look at his resume:

14-2 record going into Big 10s
Win over Bonin (UNI)
Ranked #18 in the final coaches poll (Feb. 21 Wrestling Coaches Ranking - NCAA.com)

Here's a helpful article that W.I.N. put together when the new qualification rules were put into place back in 2009:

Looks like he'd at least meet the Silver Standard (both Coaches ranking and Winning percentage).

I think he looked solid against Minnesota and Illinois and I feel good about his chances to win the Big 10 title.

He is 3-0 against Welch, 3 of the guys ranked ahead of him are freshman. Jones has a few bad losses and not to many great wins this year. Now DSJ Lost a match to Demas he should have dominated if not for the re-injury. Before the injury against NIU he was 10-0 with bonus in 7 matches. I think hes starting to get used to wrestling hobled and a high AA spot isn't out of the question. Even though there are 19 guys ranked ahead of him he finished ahead of all of them last year at 157.

Thanks for the link twade. If he wrestles like he did last weekend no doubt that he will qualify, just concerned about that knee still. I agree with the rest, 9 qualifiers.

Is Vinnie going for the Hawks at 197 for sure?

Isn't there a chance he can finish in the top 7 at conference ?
Vinnie's going to have a tough time qualifying at 197 (and he has no chance at a wildcard here).

Big 10 qualifies 7 at 197. My projected seeds:

1. Yohn (MN)
2. Powless (IN)
3. McIntosh (PSU)
4. Campollattano (OSU)
5. Huntley (MI)
6. Gonzalez (IL)
7. Nakashima (NE)
8. McDiarmid (MSU)

Unseeded: Wagner (Iowa), Schoen (NW), Hein (WI), Kissel (PU)

After seeing him go head-to-head with Yohn and Gonzalez last weekend (losing 7-4 and 11-6), I'm hard-pressed to see him finish top 7. For comparison purposes, Gambrall lost to Schoen and beat Nakashima in OT.

Won't be long before the B1G and the Big 12 are the only schools left with wrestling teams...throw in a few eastern schools and you have college wrestling these days. too bad...Nice sport killed so that schools could finance women's rowing teams where they have to advertise to get rowers and then the women get full rides...Having never played the sport and then getting a full ride somehow just does not feel right and fair?

If places 1-8 are the only ones determined at the Big 10 tournament....how is it decided who advances to the NCAA's if the Big 10 gets to send 9 or 10 wrestlers at a weight?

They will wrestle those weights out to the places that need to be determined.
