How else can we describe yesterday's game. Iowa loses to Iowa State. Iowa outmans Iowa State in every category except one. And most of us know what that is. Coaching. Iowa was outcoached. Flat out. Over here at Hawkeye Nation we love poking fun at Paul Rhoads. His videos are hilarious. One that I don't find funny is the video of him as the coach who won the Iowa/Iowa State game.
Iowa has some of the best equipment and facilities that money can buy. The coaches all are highly paid. Higher paid than at Iowa State. Many of the players at Iowa chose Iowa over Iowa State. And this year they are losers. The coaches put them out on the field when they weren't ready. Iowa can't run the ball. An Iowa team that has one of the best linemen in the country can't run the ball. Scherff. Need we say more? This is not just my opinion. It is a fact.
The offensive experiment with Coach Davis is a failure. His offense killed James Vandeburg's senior year. We can speculate on what it did to his pro prospects. But that's all speculation. This hasn't worked. Is it because Kirk Ferentz interferes? We don't know. But this still goes back to Kirk. He hired him.
The offensive line is coached by his son, Brian Ferentz. Is nepotism a problem? In this case I think so. Are we supposed to believe that Brian Ferentz was the best offensive line coach available when Iowa went looking? Considering how much Iowa pays it's coaching staff, I think not. Again this comes back to Kirk Ferentz. What happens when you hire a relative and it doesn't work. It might make Thanksgiving dinner a bit tough, but I say take him to the woodshed along with Greg Davis. If Kirk Ferentz can't make the hard choices. Then it's time for Gary Barda to step in. Time for another house cleaning.
